Anyone build or own a G20 long slide???
« on: March 01, 2006, 12:05:19 PM »
I've seen a few G20's (fullsize 10mm) that were converted to long slides and I'm really interested in building one! Anyone build or own one? I love the look of them and think the longer sight radius will help!

None that I'm aware of. Here's another option:

Thanks Savage. Here are a few pictures of the Glock 10mm long slide. As you can see it looks like a factory made Glock. It has a six inch barrel. These are pictures of two guys at www.glocktalk.com that gave me the idea. The first two pic's are from Coloradoglocker. He is the one that came up with this idea and did all the leg work to make it happen! He's giving me all the info I need to complete my G20L.

The first picture show both the 10mm and 45 ACP.

Savage, I sure will. It's going to take a while to complete. Right now Lone Wolf Distributors only has the G21L (45 ACP) long slide. I can make the 10mm with the G21L without any problem at all. KKM makes a 10mm barrel that will fit in the G21L. The reason I want to wait for the G20L long slide(10mm) is because KKM also makes a 357 Sig. barrel that will work with the G20L set up. I can't find a 357 Sig. barrel that will work with the G21L set up.

This project is going to cost a little over $1000. I don't have a G20 or G21 to start with so I have to buy everything from scratch. I don't mind the cost because this is truely going to be a custom pistol.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know anyone made long slides for these frames. Will the larger breach face of the 21 be a problem with the 10mm size case head? Looks like the long slide for the 21 would make a good platform for the 45 Super as well! Just a thought-------I already have the fullsize Witness in 10mm----- :-)

Savage, Lone Wolf makes (or has them made) a G21L long slide and were going to come out with a G20L long slide but now they don't know if they're going too.

As far as the breach face go's, I've been told that the G20 and G21 use the same lower receivers with the same internal parts. The difference between the two pistols are the upper receiver assembly's. You can use a 10mm barrel in a G21 as long as the 10mm barrel was specifically made to use in a G21. You can't take a factory 10mm barrel and use it in a G21. You can not however use a 45 ACP barrel in a G20. The 45 ACP barrel has to large of a outside diameter to use in a 10mm. Again this is what I've been told.

I'm pretty sure you can use a 45 Super barrel in a G21L long slide but I haven't seen one, haven't been looking for them either.

If Lone Wolf doesn't come out with the G20L long slide I'll have to use the 45 long slide and use a 45/10mm conversion barrel. I really wanted to be able to use a 357 Sig. barrel as well. I wouldn't be able to do this with the 45 long slide!

NYH,
Correct, the 21/20 lowers are the same. My concern was with the breach face on the upper as the case head for the .45 is larger than the .40. Could be that a simple extractor change would surfice to align the case head sufficently for firing. Sounds like you saying that a 20 conversion barrel, a 20 extractor, and 20 mags would do the trick. It might be fun to have this conversion for my 21! I think I still have some mags for the mdl 20 somewhere......................Good luck on yours!

nivana91,
If you are referring to the model 35, I don't think it has sufficent slide mass to handle the 10mm. Maybe, that problem could be overcome with a super heavy progressive rate recoil spring, not for sure about it even then. Even if it would work, the barrel length is 5.32". We were referring to a 6" version. Anyway, welcome to the forum!

I don't think the magazine well is long enough (front to back) in a G22, G23, G24L, G27 or G35 pistol to use the 10mm cartridge.

Good point NYH! Hadn't considered using 10mm in a .40 platform. It's usually done the other way around for good reasons, COL being one!
