Hello, I have never posted on this forum before (only on the Marlin Levegun section).  I have a question about the Saiga 308 rifles.  These are apparently being imported into the US again, and I am thinking about buying one at some future point.  Does anyone own one?  Are they fairly accurate and reliability (typical AK reliability).

It is too bad that Isamuch (spelling?) wouldn't provide a high capacity magazine for it!

I'm hoping that these will be making the rounds at gun shows this year so I can check one out.

I have shot one which belongs to a friend.They shoot well enough but I consider them to be heavy and not well balanced.

First our big brother watching over us won't allow the saiga's to be imported with larger mags I think thats the problem. I have a Russian Izhmash Saiga Sporter in 308win w/16" barrel and its awesome its quite a gun. Its built on the AK47 platform and its in a sporter wrapper. I'm shooting 1 1/2" groups at 100yds using South African 308 FMJ Ball ammo. I'm sure that reloads would tighten up the groups. I have heard of others making 200yd and 400yd+ shots with their 16" barreled saiga's too. I also heard the 16" barrel and 22" barrels have the same accuracy at 100yds too.  We hammer the saiga on every trip to the range between the 4 of us shooting it and it has never stove piped or jammed the gun is flawless just like its AK47 brothers are.  The Saiga in 308win and in .223rem are proven to be very accurate. Your getting a brand new quality Russian/Izhmash AK47 in a sporter wrapper it has a chrome lined barrel and chamber too for the price tag of $350 for the 308win saiga and its under $300 for the saiga in .223. You have the Russian reliability, the dependability and affordable price tag which is unmatched in our gun market here today for a 308 rifle.

BTW; Just lube the gun up with moly it smooths out the action and trigger it becomes a whole different gun its awesome how good it feels when you shoot it after just using the right lube in it.

That is a good price for a reliable, fairly accurate 308.  I wish they had 20 round magazines for it.  With the AWB being dead, i just don't understand.  You can get standard AK's with up to 75 round drums but a Saiga is limited to 8 - damn.

Trust me if it had a larger mag i'd go broke very fast trying to feed it or i would have the reloader in one hand and the saiga in the other.  Don't overlook this exceiting, fun, affordable, brand new AK47 in a sporter wrapper its a hoot to shoot.  The dam thing is flawless its very impressive. Over the higher priced 308 semi-auto's its a much better gun for the average shooter/plinker who just wants to blast off the 308win/nato surplus rounds or take her out in the woods hunting too. This quality gun will cover both shooting and hunting very well and it will still hold up. Another big factor for those who don't know too much stuff about AK's it can be completely disassembles in 5 seconds to clean it and thats another factor if your in the pouring rain hunting. Now i'm kind of happy the mag is smaller because i go thru ammo slower.  There are others who are making larger mags fit all the saiga's(saiga owners) if you want to make one fit.  Some say the M1a mag can be made to sit it too you can checkout the saiga-12 site for more info on conversions and mags some of these guys sure have the info down.

Your local gun shop may have it or are you near Kittery Trading post they may have it too.  The saiga in 308win and in .223rem are awesome twins to have, both come in 16" barrels too.  Remember this is a BRAND NEW RUSSIAN manufactured AK in a sporter wrapper it doesn't get any better than this.  

Its not some ones butchered rework.

The Kittery Trading Post is one of my favorite places to go (its only 45 minutes away).  Maybe, I'll give them a call.
