Anyone know how well they can adapt to wintery conditions? I know that Russian boar inhabitr some pretty cold and snowy areas of the Urals. In addition, there are some preserves north of the Mason-Dixon line that have these animals.

I was wondering how well they fare with cold and snow?

I don't have a direct answer to your question but the large boar which we hunted in Pa last week were brought down from a breeder in Canada in February. I'd imagine that its pretty cold up there in February. The boar that we shot had good, thick, long fur coats with thick undercoats (as the outfitter refered it as). They will make a nice wall mount.
They also had plenty of thick fat over there backs, which is now ground into sausage :)

Hey VH,
If you don't mind me asking, where did you hunt in Pa? A friend and I are lokking for something close to home but want it fairly open hunting, not canned. Anything you have to add would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

We hunted at "The Wilderness" hunting lodge in Everett, Pa. Canned hunts can be very different things. In my opinion, all boar hunts in NY, Pa, NH and several other states are "canned", if by that you mean fenced in with no escape. These states do not have free ranging boar populations. They are no kill-no pay hunts and you are almost certain to get shots at game.
The real question is how large is the hunting area. The Wilderness has 600 acres which is divided, but completely fenced. Below is their web site. If you have any questions just give me a holler.
