Have you guys seen their new commercial? It looks like they  are  using gays in their commercials. Watch that commercial, and you'll see what I mean.

Sheila, sounds good to me & a modest combo meal there is allmost as expensive as a Buffet with real food anyway, I never have understood that.

TM7, you really nailed it, Sir! I agree with your advise as well & have
cut way back on my movies, videos & Hollywood crap.

Well,

I guess I'm going to have to try and see what all the fuss is about...... boycott Wendy's.......... that's the closest fast food joint to my business and my wife and I split one of their combos (you can get a baked potato instead of fries) probably 2-3 times a week......

I'm taking it that this ad is pretty in your face......

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is becoming all too common... :?

Sorry folks, I do not make my purchases based on Race, Religion, Sexual Orientation or any other factor not having a damn thing to do with the product I am buying.... I will leave that for the Closed Minded arrogant folks to do... me I am a little more open minded and base my opinion of a person on the person not just because they are different or have a different life style than mine.... And I buy products based on my wants needs and ability to pay for them. Now donÂ’t get me wrong I may not approve of it or agree with it.... but I donÂ’t have to.... but that does not give me the right to tear a person down over it either....

Matt and 32winspl......what about people that do have different standards or beliefs than yours? You wouldn't be intolerant of them if they expressed their beliefs in one way or another, would ya?

No I would not... but here in my house everyone is entitled to respect regardless of there Race, Religion, Nationality, Sexual Orientation etc. etc. so long as they follow the rules of my house, if they cant do this then I ask them to leave until such time they feel they can... ( by my house I mean my house not GBO)

Quote
Some folks just don't buy into the destruction of our culture, and so stand for things more than the live and let live creedo does.

Well that is your right to do so I am simply saying that all this talk about a company based on the advertising is BS... If you were not looking for a reason to justify hatred for a group of people then you would not be worried about it so much... And as to the destruction of our Culture.... Oh my God give me a break... We as Americans have done more to destroy our own culture than anyone else... We trust so called elected "Self Centered - Egotistical, Arrogant, Closed Minded people to represent and SCREW Us... yeah I said it... DonÂ’t believe me... Take three steps back and look at this country... it has gone to hell in a hand basket all because the people trust our elected officials to have our best interest in mind.... Yeah Right... What ever....

One example of this is the fact that no matter how long a person serves as a member of congress, senate, governor or most other higher level office they are paid that salary for the rest of there lives.... Yeah you and I and all the rest pay them till they die... THAT IS TOTAL BS... They did little for me while they were in office, they made big bucks from the campaign funds (yeah they keep that after they leave office) and on top of that they get a check for the rest of their natural life... WHY.... If they are for the people then why are they shafting us by sticking us with the bill?  Why... I'll tell you why because we let them... We as Americans HAVE NO MIND not of our own anyway, we are told how to think, and how to act and to not buck the system.... and for the most part that is how it is... So if you really want to Stop the destruction of our culture then I would suggest you look to the political arena and stop worrying about the Mexicans, Jews, Gays, Muslims and the rest of the world and start worrying about the man or woman you voted for, they control what happens to this countryÂ… Up until “We The People” decide to think and act for ourselves and stop trusting someone else to do it for us we are headed down hill.

So do not talk to me about how others have destroyed our country and culture until you except the responsibility for your own vote and the people you have helped put in office. Then and only then can we start to bring Freedom back to AmericaÂ…. Also you said Destroying our cultureÂ…IsnÂ’t America supposed to the land of the Free... HelloÂ… FreeÂ… know what that means?

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Free is an English language adjective, verb, and adverb.

As an adjective or adverb, free may either describe a state of autonomy, or the quality of being unfettered by some arbitrary restriction. It may also describe a commodity for which one is unobligated to pay. For an elaboration on this distinction, see Gratis versus Libre.

The transitive verb to free may variously mean to emancipate, to release from a constriction, or to confer freedom.

Wow ….” the quality of being unfettered by some arbitrary restriction” amazing that a country based and founded on freedom has forgotten what it means… not really because we are told what they want it is to mean all our lives, School, Church, Government… All of these tell us how to think… well Not me… I can do it fo myself and I wish more people would start…

Ok thatÂ’s enough for nowÂ…

Well, I don't think that anyone would argue that there is a point at which we should boycott or even lobby for the closure of a busines.....  If in fact Wendy's is crossing the line (I still have not seen the commercial and no one has outlined just what is so offensive) then I would stop doing business with them.

There are many businesses that I choose not to do business with for what ever reason and that certainly does not make me narrow minded or intolerant!  If one wishes to spend their monies with like minded people that is their God given right and to assert that they should do otherwise is in itself narrow minded and intolerant.....

Having said that I'm not going to stop patronizing Wendy's until I either hear eachly what they're doing or I see their commercials.  Personally, two of my very best and closest friends in this world are Gay......... are they both living in sin..... certainly!  But I was taught to love the sinner and hate the sin...... perhaps someday they will turn from their sinful lives...... but either way I will remain their friend...... for I certainly am not without sin..... so who am I to judge them.

if you dont like them for whatever reason you are free to choose not to eat there, and i am free to choose to do whatever the heck i want.

i agree with Matt that too many people here are concerned with the straight, white, protestant, conservative culture and none other. it is fine to want your heritage to live on forever but not at the cost of dragging everyone else's down.

I am white and a male and mostly conservative but i am a Libertarian, as some here already know. I think we all have our rights equally and I could care less what Wendy's does with their TV time that they paid for. if i don't like what they do i ignore it or i dont shop there. why raise hell about it and start a crusade?

i have things i agree and disagree with but i choose to vote and fund my conscience. if something or someone bothers me i do what's in my best interests. not everyone thinks like you do and everyone who disagrees with you is not necessarily wrong because of it.

Matt is right, there are a lot more important things to fix and worry about than black and white and gay or straight or whatever your personal pet peeve is.

me saying i like something or not, is not going to cause millions of people to suddenly become gay or straight, leading to the demise of the world. that's a bit bizarre.

i don't hold the gay lifestyle in some esteem or whatever you inferred. i just think its wrong to hate them for no other reason than that you think you should.

i do not advocate gay lifestyles and i do not want it for myself. but i refuse to hate those who do and if i dont like the way they act i can ignore them, which apparently is ipossible for some here on this site who use God's name for their own purposes. this is not aimed at anyone in particular, however, since when do we all get to use deities in place of common sense? if that's how it is, i can make up some code of ethics and Matt and I can make a fort out of couch cushions and not let you folks play. :)

i am not bigoted. i think close-minded people need to be more open and i refuse to label, brand, and categorize people. i am not sure how that can be construed as bigoted.

perhaps i should begin to hate certain groups and call them names and try to shove my own beliefs down their throats? would that make me more genteel and loving?

I think that it is great to have the freedom to support or choose not to support certain lifestyles, one of the benefits of being American. Remember that many people do not want to do business with Christians &
some minorities would rather buy from their own race when they can &
they have that same right to choose as the dreaded Christians like me.
I would never hate or do harm to a homosexual & yes they can do their
own thing. But I am not comfortable with promoting them or supporting
their cause & they can be the same way about me. Now how's that for
freedom!! Sorry, nothing to do with bigotry as I don't put them down, I just CHOOSE not to support them.
To me it is more a matter of doing business with those that I have the same beliefs that I do. If I know that a Company is anti gun guess what, I don't support them. Some pro gun agencies let us know who these people are & I think it is great. That is all that is being done here. Dropping Wendy's for me would not create much stress for me anyway, I live in the South where people actually know how to cook anyway & I can get a better burger in any town around here.  :)
I do not know why Race comes in every time Homosexuality is mentioned
unless there is a bogus as in this case inference to bigotry. Sorry, no relationship & I think it is a slap in the face to any Racial Minority group to lump these totally unrelated groups together. Most of my ancesters are
from Europe but I have a Cherokee ancestry as well but regardless, I
don't know of any straights of any Race who would want to be lumped with these folks.
So for those who want to support companies no matter what they do, well you have that right just as I have the right not to do so.   :D

nomosendero, you and i are communicating the same message with different words  :D

TM7, i am not saying YOU hate gays, i am saying a lot of people do and they expect those of us who don't burn inside with that hatred, to side with them and run them out of town.

i am saying if they don't harm me or those i love and they don't infringe on my civil rights, or those of other free peoples, i leave 'em be and if they want to act stupid and do stupid things then let 'em. conversely, my policy applies to straight people too.

it's not about NOT having boundaries or standards or accepting anything blindly. it's saying "i have seen it all before and i refuse to let anyone push my buttons" and simply admitting to myself that all people who live here are free to do as they please and my opinion isn't going to make them do as i want.

You're right.  And while I've never seen this Wendy's commercial I can't help but think this is much ado about nothing.  And it seems that boycotting things that seem sorta gay is a somewhat stupid standard... Of course everyone has the right to shop where they see fit

i will use your analogy then.

this subject is like hating your lab because he is a lab and acts like a lab and then expecting him to act like a duck and refusing to feed him because he isn't a duck.

you wanting him to be a different way isn't going to change the way he is. and you can either deal with it or get rid of him because he is what he is.

see what i mean? gays, most gays anyway, seem to think they just ARE that way and that it's "right" for them. why fight with them about it? it's not about me accepting or not. it's about me respecting their freedom enough not to mess with 'em or harrass them.

that's all i was trying to clarify. and that's MY opinion and you can choose to think i am an idiot or you can choose to agree with me and neither one is going to make me lose sleep, just like my opinion isn't going to hurt you any

Geez, talk about bigoted. You have the audacity to rant and rave about liberty and freedom and when you 'think' you have found someone, on the www no less, that is less tolerant and less accepting of various things that you may accept, you go in attack mode.

First I am not in attack mode... I am simply quite verbal in my expressions of what mjbgalt said short and sweet here:
Quote
i am saying if they don't harm me or those i love and they don't infringe on my civil rights, or those of other free peoples, i leave 'em be and if they want to act stupid and do stupid things then let 'em. conversely, my policy applies to straight people too.

Now as for the being a bigot hmmm...
Man I love wikipedia....
Quote

Bigotry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bigot is a prejudiced person who is intolerant of opinions differing from his own. The origin of the word in English dates back to at least 1598, via Middle French, and started with the sense of religious hypocrite, especially a woman. Today, it is considered a synonym of closed-minded.

Bigot is often used as a pejorative term against a person who is obstinately devoted to his or her prejudices even when these prejudices are challenged or proven to be false, often advocating and defending these prejudices in a rude and intolerant manner. Forms of bigotry may have a related ideology or worldview such as racism, religion, nationalism or homophobia.

Now...
Quote
Then you try to link some merchandizing of hamburgers to the failure of our democratic system and blame it on every disinterested American busy making a living.

Hmm... let me find somethingÂ….
Quote
The deal is after denigrating the selfreliant, free, and independent image of an American icon--the cowboy by a Chinese film director; they're going to continue to capitalize on the theme by spredding it on thick and heavy most everywhere. Best advice is don't buy any products represented by such nonsense. In fact, it is about the only choice.

Lets see...
Quote
Matt and 32winspl......what about people that do have different standards or beliefs than yours? You wouldn't be intolerant of them if they expressed their beliefs in one way or another, would ya? Some folks just don't buy into the destruction of our culture, and so stand for things more than the live and let live creedo does.

Now you want to ask why... ok here you are talking about how the American Culture is being destroyed by homosexuals...and Chinese film directors but yet you are careless to the fact that the American government makes it cheaper for companies to outsource and import than to stay in this country and use the American citizens labor to produce products consumed in America to continue the support and ensure the survival of America and its Culture and its childrenÂ’s culture... Wake up man...

If you donÂ’t there will not be any culture left for the gays to destroy as you put it... Also do not tell me that you do not hold a hatred for gays... read your post man... look I donÂ’t approve of it either and do not encourage it, but if my son when he reaches that age comes to me and tells me he is gay I am not going to turn my back on him...he is still my son and though I would not like it worth a damn I would still love him.

So now that I have said that lets get back to the topic and obvious purpose for this thread... To point fingers at a group of people that have a viewpoint that differs from a large part of society in an attempt to cause some sort of monetary damage to a company that is felt by some to support this viewpoint based on a TV commercial advertising campaign that was most likely created by a marketing company under the management of an advertising director who could have,
 a) been gay and wanted to target a group he or she is like minded with or
 b) Wanted to target this particular group of people and increase its sells to them.
I have not seen this commercial so it could be earmarked for areas that have a known high population of gays and thus be the reason some have seen it and some have not.

If this is the case then I can further understand why the post was made... The people who have seen the ad may live in an area with a high population of gays and not be happy about it and be venting here, thus the snowball effect when it comes to alternate viewpoints and the acceptance and/or understanding of them. Once that ball has started there is no telling where it will end or how big it will be when it does

interesting.

hey, along those same lines, would the psych people consider smoking to be a disorder too, since it kills off the people who practice it?

also, almost everyone (except really whacked-out people way on the right or left) believes in microevolution, like birds developing a more pointed beak over hundreds of years, to feed better, for instance.

just that some people don't believe that humans evolved from apes or that the world started out as a huge asteroid that exploded.

TM7, ok then I will give... we will just say that you have a dislike for the behavior carried on by this group of people... fair enough...

Now I ask you though...

What is should be the focal point of your energy then, a fad as you call it that in itself has no real way of maintaining its population except through means of more or less a conversion so to speak... which has always as far back as can be documented has existed.

or

The fact that Americans are paying more and more and getting paid the same amount or less and some not even at all, now which of these really has the most potential to destroy the American Culture and way of life?

I am simply saying that if people do not set aside their differences and address the problems at hand then the country in headed down hill...

After all our differences is what makes us who we are...

OK, Here's a link to Wendy's home site:  Wendys

There are 3 commercials on the frame toward the bottom.  If you click on it you can view them.  Are these the commercials in question?  If so, they are IMO poor advertising but not blatantly gay like I was lead to believe.  Guess??? you could read an overtone into them.  For now I'll reserve judgement - time will tell!
