Ohhh...the anticipation of new barrels...

I got my 25-06 barrel sent off today to Oregunsmithing to be re-bored to 270 Winchester(finally)..and a receiver sent in to NEF for a new 25-06 extractor barrel to replace it along with the steel foreend spacer and steel trigger gaurd to be fitted..I got new stocks ordered for it as well....Now the wait begins..

Patience is a killer, when you want something really bad :)
I am really looking forward to your report on the 26" 270 my friend as well as the velocities you get. I know you have wanted one for a long time. I am sure he will do a fine job, and you will be well pleased with it. :toast:

Mac, I think that you need to get those 100 gr. pills in & that way I can test them before you can.  :)

BTW, I still have a few more 125 Gr. bullets if needed when the time comes.  :D

What's his turnaround now?  Has he moved and set his shop back up yet?  I've been waiting on him getting settled into his new shop.

Ian,

The best thing to do is give Wayne a call or an email to see what kind of turn around to expect, If you just want a rechamber, I would imagine that would happen much sooner than a complete rebore/rechamber. He's got my .357max for rechamber to .35 Rem, I'll letcha know when I get it!!

Knight was correct..it is to get a 26" cut rifle barrel in 270....anyone wanting to really know what a 26" 270 barrel can do....? Read what John Barsness says in the April 2003 Handloader no.222..you'll see what I already knew from owning one..

Rod..If they come in before I get it back..I'll ship some to you and let you have the first shot.. If they work as good as your 125 WCB ULD-RBBT's do..then it will put a whole new slant on the 25-06 for sure..

Norseman..Yup..just like it... :D

Haywire..Wayne's about 90-95% set up..and is working like crazy to get caught up..he's enclosing his new blueing tanks..and then sorting everything out..after the move..but..his turn around time right now is about 1-1/2 to 2 months..depending on the job..

I'll be doing a report on both of them..you can count on it..and am looking forward to shooting them both..I'm going to trying out some new bullets with both of them..so it will be fun to say the least..

I'm considering getting one of my Handi's (22 in. 30-06) fitted with the 26" bbl. and having IT redone in 30-06 for the long pipe...that 22 incher doesn't balance the way I'd like, certainly could get more out of the longer one, and (dumb reason?) IMO, a 26 or 28 incher just plain looks nicer. Sorry if that annoys any strict 'functionalists', but that's important to me too.

Nope, this is a 223 Rem to 375 Winchester rebore.  I just didn't want to send a barrel off to him while he was in the middle of a move.

I was going to do a 38-55 to eliminate the dimension and brass length problems that plague it but in the end decided on the modern incarnation of the cartridge instead. As I understand it the 375 brass is thicker and will last longer with the more potent loads.  The 223 Ultra barrel (24"er) is there in the hobby room waiting on me to come up with the cash and to a lesser extent for the Smith's move to be completed.

Ian:

He's taking on more and more work...everyday..If you have the cash..send it on out to him..that way he has it and it'll be in line for him to work on..

The 375 is a pretty good cartridge from everything I've heard and have read about it..and should make a Dandy-Handi..when your done :D

My latest 30-40 should be done any day. Have the Sightron 3.5-10 with rings waiting for it.

I got both my 25-06 and my 280 back from NEF the other day..I'm sorry I haven't posted it up here till now....I've been a little pre-occupied with a family crisis for the last 3 days..My Mother have a major car accident in southern Ill...and had to be airlifted up here to St.Louis..and has been in the trauma ICU since. She was hurt very badly..but Thank God all her internal organs are functioning and she didn't loose any of them..and the bleeding stopped from the skull fractures..She will be facing some serious surgery most likely Monday morning..they are going to try to piece back her crushed and broken pelvis and hip socket....nothing much they can do for all the broken ribs except let them heal..It's prety hard for a lady her at..she's 79 last January..but she is a fighter..and isn't giving up..an the doctors say she will make it..Lord willing...

Anyway..here my new  25-06 Ultra extractor ..The 280 barrel is still in the safe..and both are going to get a-lot of range time in the near future..

Mac I didn't know buddy, I'm so sorry about your mom. Your right she sounds like a fighter, thats an understatement if there ever were one. I hope she has a speedy recovery, and the pain subsides quickly. I'm sure she's in good hands.

On the plus side, it's good to hear you got the goods back and are getting them preped for range time. Looking good 8)

Very sorry to hear about you mom, Mac.  The Mrs. and I will say a prayer for her.  She certainly does sound like a fighter, having sustained those serious injuries to this point at her age.

I don't know you brother, but if you could find out when your mothers surgery will be and let us know me and my family will pray for her while she is in surgery. I know for a fact it helps to have someone praying for you when you are faced with something that you have no control over.

God bless you and yours during this time of recovery....

Thanks Guys:

Right now..she is slated for surgery Monday morning sometime..that's as much as they will tell me right now...They are going to wait till then and see how her blood pressure does over the weekend...they are doing a balancing act with her meds to aliviate as much pain as they can..but when they do..her bp drops like a rock..so..it's a se-saw battle with that..So far she's hanging tuff..but she isn't a spring chicken anymore..

I know what you mean about the wait. I am waiting for a 30-30 that is going to become a 30-40, and a 7.62x39 barrel. I sent it off The third week of march and can't wait to get them. Everyday I have to say to myself it isn't time yet. LOL.
