Walther G22?
« on: March 03, 2006, 04:56:24 PM »
Hey, anybody out there have one of the Walther G22 bullpup rifles?  I have a chance to buy one for a really reasonable price, but I don't know much about them.  Know of any problems?  Thanks,
Karl

I have seen the "bullpups" but never new anyone who had one.  What are they for?  What is the reason for the design?

Yep. Have one of the black ones, although I've seen and like the olive drab model also. Have shoot it both with scope and red dot. Love the feel and it will keep CCI mini-mags, Federal 36 bulk or Remington 40 Goldens in one inch @ 25. Not benchrest performance, but it wasn't designed as such. Lots of fun to shoot. Probably 800 to 1000 rounds down range. I think I've cleaned it twice. No FTF or FTE. One problem: I converted it to left hand so my daughter could try it, and now I don't have it to use. (So I now have to pursue a BuckMark rifle I'm been lusting over...Darn!)

Thanks mt3030,

I have several .22's and God only knows why I should purchase another.  The store received a free one after purchasing several others and they want to sell it for $275 (gun, soft case).  I've always liked Walther guns, but just wasn't too sure about this one...a lot of plastic.  But, that seems to be the way now.  Well, that'll give me more to consider.  Thanks!

That is an excellant price for a new G22. Around here they are discounted to $350-$375. And they are so easy to convert to left hand if you have any southpaw shooters in your home.  I will probably never get mine back from my daughter.

You never need a reason to purchase another firearm. As long as the kids have shoes and there is milk in the frig, go for it.

Have a look at the walther site. This I think is the international forum (I am UK based) and I think there is a US forum. Lots of comments about G22 (including some from me).

Keith L.. The reason for the bullpup design is simple. To get the maxium barrell length vrs overall length. Since the clip and bolt is moved to the rear , the barrell can be longer and still have the same overall length. The trigger stays put for egronomic reasons. extra trigger linkage of some sort leads back to the bolt/reciever. There are a number of bull pup versions out there. You either love them or hate the unconventional strange look.
