TC .22 Classic - anyone shooting one?
« on: March 04, 2006, 03:42:48 AM »
Does anyone shoot one of these? The reviews I read seem great. The local gunstore just got about 1/2 dozen of these rifles in. They are "clearance" priced at about $ 280.00 which seems decent.

All of the rifles have a rounded contour at the very tip of the forearm portion of the stock except one. It has a forearm tip that is cut square on the end. Is one or the other an earlier version of the same gun?

Thanks.

Zanardi

I really like my TC Classic. Some have reported problems with early magazines and the extractor groove wearing through but I haven't had any problems with mine.
Don't know about the different forearm contour. Someone that knows will surely post soon and enlighten both of us.

I've had one since they came out,  It is by far the most accurate 22 semi auto I've owned out of the box.  I think you will really enjoy it if you decide to buy one, after all you don't need all those after market upgrades to make it shoot.

:D Hey there Zanardi,

It sounds like TC may have gotton their ducks in a row, however, some of us have some long bad tales of "classics" which rated nothing better then a 1 on the "ten" scale.

That is about three years back now, but I took a goodly loss just to get mine out of the house and that after a trip back to TC which did nothing to cure the problemS.

Good luck.

Keep em coming!

I bought one less than a year ago and it is a very accurate rifle.  I may have to part with it though.  I have several accurate 22s and I just bought an R55 which is the same rifle in 17M2.  It is very accurate also and will get a lot more use than the 22LR version.

Doc T - Congrats on the R55. I imagine I'll be seeing you around the water cooler at Thompson Center because I went ahead and bought a .22 classic. Out of the 6 at the store 3 had already sold over two days. Of the 3 left I picked out one that I thought had a gorgeous piece of walnut and brought it home.

After months of deciding what .22 I wanted the hunt is over. Now come scopes   What do you guys have or plan to have on your TCs? I'm debating between something "fun" and cheap with high magnification /AO etc. or something a little more conservative but probably of better quality like a Nikon or Weaver rimfire scope.

Man I'm jealous....I have never seen a Classic in any of the gun shops around central NC....Enjoy, let us know how it shoots....

One the scopes I have, a Leupold 3x9x33 Compact  works real nice on my Remington 541-T...

My first .22...a Remington 552 that I bought in the early '70s used to wear a Weaver 1.5x4.5 ...that was a real nice combination for our eastern grey squirrel hunting....The scope finally quit holding zero, after sending it off a couple of times I finally gave up on it....I am keeping my eyes out for another scope for it....The Simmons .22 Mag scope seems to be getting pretty good reviews over on Rimfire...I just think a 3x9 scope looks silly on a .22 auto (unless its a tricked out Ruger)....For squirrel hunting that old Weaver was just about perfect....I probably wouldn't go over a 2x7 if you are planning to hunt with it....

Let us know what you end up with...

You will never be sorry getting the best quality scope that you can buy.  I still kick myself for not picking up Swarovski binoculars when I was in Austria in 2001.  Take a look through a really well-made scope and another one and you will see what I mean.

I owned one of the first ones out----and it was POS-----good thing I got most of what I paid for it when I traded it back to the dealer I bought it from.

Several months ago I gave T/C another chance and bought another Classic---problem is--- with moving---kids---work and life in general---I haven't had a chance to take it out and shoot it----I even got extra mags for it.

So the verdict is still out on T/C in my book---sooner or later I'll get around to it.

Seems like they always have them in stock here---and they seem to sit there because of the higher price than the competing .22 models.
