Range today
« on: March 04, 2006, 06:35:03 AM »
Took my new .308 Handi out today to sight it in. I was using Winchester 180gr. The best I could get today, cuz I ran out of ammo was 2" high at 50 yrds. The last 3 shot group i shot measured .70 inches. If I leave this sighted in at 2" high at 50 yards what would be my range/zero be if I kept it like this. I'm not really familiar with .308 ballistics and trajectory and all that. Any help appreciated. thanks, Justin
P.S. 50 yards is about the farthest I can shoot at. I'm trying to get into a shooting range somewhere around here. But for now, 50 is my max range.

Depending on how high above the bore your scope is mounted and actual velocity you attain with the load you're shooting, A win PP 180gr with a muzzle velocity of 2600fps, approx 2" high at 50 will give you just shy of 4" high at 100yds, and a MPBR of 231yds for an 8" kill zone.  The silvertip ammo would be much different due to the .383 BC compared to .248 for the PP, 4" high at 150yds and dead on at 242yds, MPBR 285yds.
