New Encore

I took my new Encore to the range today. The wind was blowing from every direction but straight up.

There are some things that one learns very quickly about an Encore.

1. You cannot hold it quite like you'd hold your Super Blackhawk. That spur on the trigger guard is not for your firing convenience.

2.It isn't good to "limp wrist" a 15" 30/06. The recoil isn't bad at all, but remember the squareback trigger guard on the SBH and what it does to the unaware people? Magnify that a few degrees and look at your left hand. :?

3. Don't fire it rapidly five times and clumsily touch the barrel.

I haven't gotten a scope for it yet, so I used the iron sights.

I had a ball! The loads I used were some that I had left over from pharting around with my #1.

The best load was 60 gr. IMR 4831 with a 125gr JHP and CCi 200 primer, with some once fired military brass. It shot well and was very accurate, with no signs of excessive pressure, no sticky extraction.

The next best was 53 gr. of RE15 with Hornady 150 gr. SST's and CCI 200 primers. Both of these loads shot well @ 50 yards.

The load that just made some noise and isn't going to be repeated was 60 gr. of 760 with the 125 gr jhp. I got a pattern rather than a group with it.

Sounds like you had a blast.  :-D  The Encores can take some getting use to.

I have been shooting encores and contenders for about 17 years now and the trigger guard still takes a bite out of my finger  :)
