Hi, just found this forum. Now that I'm retired, I've revived my interest in guns and reloading after a 30 year absence. Have a 43 Spanish Remington RB that I used to enjoy shooting long ago and am looking forward to shooting it again. Worked up 30 reloads for it yesterday. Anyway, for years I've seen the NEFs and Rossi single shots in stores and have always thought one of those in .223 would be fun to shoot, low priced ammo and etc. Would love to have a Ruger #1 but out of my price range. Am leaning toward buying a Rossi/Braztech. Any comments?

Check out some of the NEF and H&R posts on this web site. I think you will find most people like the Handi-rifle. I have one in the .223 and love it. It shoots well, and didn't cost me an arm and leg. I think you would like it also.

My dad has been very happy with his Rossi in .223. He's taken a number of groundhogs with it the last couple of years, shooting Wolf and cheap Winchester ammo.

I have two Nef rifles. A .243 and a .223 . Both fun to shoot and accurate.

I have two handi rifles and two #1's The NEF's are accurate beyond their price. You'll like them just fine. :-)

I have both NEF and Rossi, and they are both great guns for the money. The Rossi is a smaller lighter frame so lighter and slimmer thus easier to lug around the hills but would kick a bit harder in the larger calibers. Mine's in 357 mag and is a pussycat to shoot especially using 38 Special ammo. Same would hold in .223. My NEF is heavier but heavy is not bad in .233 when shooting targets or varmints. The beauty of the NEF is the barrel accessory program so you can expand your shooting. Rossi has been promissing a similar program for years but so far just an empty promise. I don't think you'll go wrong with either choice.

I have the Handi in 17 hmr and 223 and like both, and am in a similar situation to you with kid off to school and extra time on my hands I've started playing with my toys again. I also have accumulated a few Encore barrels and like the idea of being able to buy a barrel and just put it on the frame today, rather than having to get it fitted. It does cost more for the Encore barrels than the Handi"s but I still like them.
