New Marlin 336 XLR

I put my hands on a new XLR yesterday. It was a really good looking gun and seem to handle and shoulder well. I may have to have me one of these. Only two things are holding me back from getting one: it was kind of pricey ($619.00) and I can't decide if I want a 30-30, 444, or a 45-70.
Has anyone seen this gun for a better price? The place I found this one is known to be high on their guns. By the way, this one was a 30-30. This may be the only caliber out right now, I'm not sure.

I haven't seen one on the shelf yet, they sure do look good. You can see by my user name my preference. That being said I will check out the 30/30 only because I don't need two 45/70's and have always wanted a Marlin 30/30. If they are gonna be $600 I'll probably just get a standard 336 at the local shop for $300.

I almost put one in lay-away this past Sat. I went back to a 336C in 35 Rem This yr is 100 yr of the 35 rem. Nothing against the 30/30 and the new hornady round in that load is flat awsome. I still like my 35 rem I guess its a 35 rem thing

Not problem the 45/70 is the one for me.

Hey Guys,

I know these new rifles were designed with the new  "rubber tipped bullet" in mind, but I'm really curious as to what they might do to the 336 in the way of modifications to accomodate the new ammo.

Aside from a slight modification to the carrier or follower, I doubt much will change.  Another few inches of barrel might be a nice option, but Marlin doesn't make changes often.  I'd like to see one with a non-laminated stock, I think it would look good with the stainless.  But I guess you could always re-finish it with some automotive crinkle paint if you wanted, or just re-stock it in walnut.  I like the XLR concept, but I think the guns are ugly.  To each his own.

There's one in 45-70 on my "goota get" list but it's a ways down.  Besides, I'll wait util the other chamberings are out and the new price costs are dwindled a bit.
