Browning BLR

Have an older BLR (1991?) in 270 that is missing the rear sights. If anybody wants to sell their rear assembly that has been sitting in a drawer for ages and want to move it along, I would like to buy

WXL, A 1991 vintage blr is not really and older model.  By then there had been several variations in 21 years of production. Regards, Byron

I picked up a Belgian made (1970) BLR in .308 at the last gun show in Tulsa.

I LOVE THESE GUNS...

I installed a Leupold VXIII 1.5-5x20 scope and the package is great.

I got the BLR in 300 WSM. I isghted it in with Winchester 180 gr PowerPoints. IT was real close with the bore sight so I let it alone. I missed a nice buck running that I normally should have hit. I thought the scope may be off (or me). When I tried to sight it in again, it was all over the place (5 inches at 100 yards with a good rest) with the Win bullets. I need to try some other type, maybe the Remington CoreLok. Anyone had problems getting the 300 WSM to shoot good?? What ammo do you use?

Rickweed, never used the 300sm but all of my blr's will shoot into 1&1/2" or less. Have you made sure your scope mounts are tight. Are you sure the scope is ok? Try other ammo is a good idea but I would check those mounts first.  Byron

I have a Burris 4.5-14X42 scope on it and I checked the scope and it is tight. I would have to take the scope off to check the mounts. I have an adjustable IT scope rack that I shoot off of and that seems to be solid. I may just have to take the scope off, check the mounts, and try again. 5" at 100 yards is terrible. I can hit a quarter with my Traditions In-line muzzleloader at 100 yards. Thanks.

Do the BLR "alloy" receivers stand up to a lot of punishment? I am leary of an alloy receiver for a .308 or 30-06.

How are they?

If they'll stand the short mags, the 308/30-06 are certainly good to go!

I have been trying for 5 yrs to find a gunsmith that would re-barrel a BLR to either a 260 or a 6.5x55 to no avail.  I would greatly appreciate it if you know of one.  Please I hope you don't suggest Z Hat.  I have tried to have them answer email for 2 yrs.

I'm pretty sure (not absolutely positive tho) that SSK Industries a GBO Sponsor will do this type work for you. It's possible that MGM another GBO Sponsor might also but I'm not sure just what all types of work they are willing to take on.

He's refering to the case rim diameter.  It's .473 on the 22-250 and any 308 based cartridge.

How are they?

The bolt locks into and extended part of the steel barrel, thus the alloy receiver has no bearing on the issue.  The new ones (alloy receivers) come in the 300 WSM caliber, and I THINK the 325 WSM as well, so the 308 or 30-06 will be a pussycat by camparison.

    OK, I'll be the odd man out.  I had a BLR in 7-08.  A very nice gun well balanced and I like the detachable magazine but I sold it and kept a Savage 99F in 308.  The BLR was a saddle stock and didn't work well with a scope for me.  If I had wanted an open sited gun it would have been great.
