how fast is reeeeaaal fast?
« on: March 09, 2006, 08:02:39 AM »
im not a speed freak with my bow..im shootin around 286....and im comfortable with that.  that said...i ran into a guy at the range yesterday....watched him shoot..."heard" him shoot is more like it.  he was just screaming them in there.  i asked if he chronoed it.  he said im shooting around 370-380 fps.  i said no way.....well we chronographed it right there and no kidding with three shots through the chronograph....it read...379, 381, and 382......thats a 3 folks.  i never would have believed it.

that said he's shooting a bowtek from a few years ago at 70 pounds with an over draw and very tiny diameter carbons....i think he's too light for his set up......but i dont know the weight of his arrows.   but i can say....he shoots garbage.  at 20 yards....he has no group.  he's consistently 3-4 inches off in any direction.  his shots suck.....but with the speed he's producing....he knows how bad he sucks very quickly....lol

wonder how long his limbs n cams will last withthat much shock and pressure?

I've come to believe that there is a practical bow speed, then fast, and then silly. Silly is where that guy fits in.

Yeah, if you can't be consistent, you can't be accurate.
You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:

believeable

It is believable but not safe.  My BowTech was rated at 328 with  the right arrow.  Bt lowering his arrow weight he is placing excessive stress on all of the bow parts.  It just may come apart in his hands some day as he is just about dry-firing it.

I moved up to a 500+ grain arrow and the bow actually smoothed out. still plenty flat enough to 50 yards for hunting.

My martin jag comes in at 312 fps, not the fastest. But it's quiet. Not as quiet as my PSE. I'll give up speed for quiet. :)

My Ultra2 shoots through a chrono at 283 fps and is plenty fast enough and plenty quiet. It is rated as 320+ ibo.

Arrow and speed specs using Gold Tip 5575 XT Hunter carbon shafts

Total Arrow Weight = 375 grains
Draw Weight = 70 lbs
Draw Length = 30"

Chronograph Speed = 283 fps
Kinetic Energy = 66.71 ft/lbs

IBO and AMO are virtually a useless figure when compared to real world figures but do give an idication of a bow compared to another.
