What about fishing weights?

Another hobby of mine, metal-detecting, has yielded a goodly supply of lead weights... are these safe to throw in the pot as long as I'm casting hard bullets anyway?

I am no expert, but I would say yes. Any grit or dirt will float to the top and be skimmed off. Lead sinkers are soft lead so it will affect the overall hardness of the mixture.

Fishing weights are fine.  Pretty anything lead will work.  If you're working towards a certain hardness you may have to experiment a bit.

I've been casting for .32 through .45 Colt and haven't had any problems.
