DIfference -- Colt SAA 3rd Gen vs. Colt Cowboy
« on: March 09, 2006, 04:39:35 PM »
What's the difference between the the two versions of the Colt Single Action.  How do you tell them apart (is the "Cowboy" moniker stamped on the gun)?  Reason I'm asking is a local gun shop has a used  Colt Single Action (I don't know if it is a Cowboy or a SAA) for $735.   It was represented to me as a 3rd Gen SAA. Except for one small blem on trigger guard, looks like it was never shot or handled much -- no holster wear, nor burn marks on  cyl face, and no bolt lines on cyl.

Don't really need this gun,  however I've always wanted a Colt SAA and if this really is a 3rd Gen SAA, the price seems too good to pass up.

Are there any known or common problems with 3rd Gen SAAs?

Any and all input will be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Paul

DIfference -- Colt SAA 3rd Gen vs. Colt Cow

It's easy to tell if you pick up the gun.  The Cowboy has a transfer bar system.  If you cock the hammer, you can see the transfer bar lying over the (frame mounted) firing pin.  The Single Action Army has the firing pin mounted in the hammer.  Most Single Action Army's seem to sell in the $900/1000 range and the Cowboy should not cost much more than $500.  If it's a SAA, that's a great price and you should jump on it!  44 Man
