Encore Barrel Cleaning
« on: March 24, 2003, 08:41:00 AM »
Is anyone using a bore guide for cleaning their encore barrel?  I like to use a bore guide like the stoney point model or something similar when cleaning my bolt action rifles, but obvioulsy the encore is a different animal.  I have been using a cone shaped brass bore guide (actually made for cleaning from the muzzel) placed in the chamber end of the barrel in a effort to keep the rod centered in the bore.  It seems to work pretty well as long as you keep one hand holding the bore guide in place while the other hand works the cleading rod.

Anyone have any other techniques?

Additionally, what are your thoughts on lubricating the locking lugs.  It seems that I heard somewhere that you should not use any lube on the encore lugs, as it may affect the way the barrel loks up to the frame, in turn effecting accuracy.  Any merit to this or just hearsay?

Raven,
I always use a guide in cleaning my rifles. Most are bolt guns but I do have a few single shots that I clean in the same way. Always push the patch from the chamber to the muzzle, as this keeps the debris from fouling the chamber. I do have some weapons that make this practice difficult but with a guide and flexible rod it can be done. Revolvers are different and I rarely clean them from the breech, but then their chambers are separate and cleaned separately.

Sinclair and Midway offer bore guides for most common calibers in the Encore.

I was going to say that Sinclair has a bore guide for the encore, but you already discovered it. Good shooting
