What Twist Rate
« on: March 12, 2006, 11:52:55 AM »
I looked under tha faqs but wasnt able to determine what twist rate my rifle has. I bought it early in 2006 and the serial number starts with NV. It is a .223 Survivor. I tried the cleaning rod trick but still couldnt tell. Any help would be appreciated.

The V denotes a 2005 built rifle, another member has a W 2006 built .223 Ultra barrel that definately has a 1:12" twist, so yours most likely is 1:12" also. The patch fit on the cleaning rod needs to be tight in the bore and the rod needs to rotate freely with the rifling, that just about requires a ball bearing or real free turning handle on the rod.

Hello, I am in the same boat as you but my sn start HV.  I broke the rifle in with some 55gr Ball from PMC and the accuracy was not to bad, then I went to the new bulk packed 40gr HP from Federal and it was much better.  I was hitting 20oz coke bottles at 200 yds no problem.  Next time I will remember to take the staple gun :(
