Anschutz rail bipod on Choate forend
« on: March 12, 2006, 08:00:46 PM »
I've been trying to get an affordable bipiod for my Survivor Varmint forend.
There are these Anschutz Bipods around which are mighty inexpensive and seem like a perfect solution- least parts and least money:

The rail is an Anszhutz groove.. I wonder if one of these might be the ticket with the Choate Varmint forend.
My concern is if they are high enough.  I've got a few emails out to see the dimensions of this bipod, I'll post when I have update.
Maybe it is both high enough for bench use AND would fit inside the regular Survivor stock storage space- just file down the width of the metal feet a bit...

Thats interesting. I haven't seen those before. Good price too.
I personally would rather have an adjustable one, like a Harris or a spin off of it. Got one at Walmart for around $40 or so. I've more than got my use from it, and it's still holding up nicely. I mainly use Bi-Pods for a rest, and I'm pretty happy with them. Keep us posted on what you find.

I may be wrong, but this kind of bipod is 3 or 4" high.
The purpose is to lay the rifle and protect the barrel from ground contact.
Not made to be used as a shooting rest !.

Well, the Anschutz rail is 3" high, with a spread (from center of one foot to centre of other) of 4.5".
I think, unfortunately, that will be too low.
I'll call Fred at Choate today and see if he knows of a crafty solution.
Still love the idea of a bipod that has no moving parts and costs very little.
I had a Shooters Ridge (the ones at WalMart) and couldn't get it to hold tight so I returned it.

In International compatition they are not allowed to use a bi-pod for shooting.  This bi-pod is strictly to hold the gun upright while the shooter leaves the gun on the firing line and steps back after a prone shot.  It's way too small to use for a shooting rest.  Plus putting the Anschultz rail on your gun is not an easy thing to do.  I've helped put them on several guns at the shooting club, and it takes someone who knows what they are doing with a router to install one.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

The Choate Varmint forend has a built in Anschutz rail.
Seems like there must be a way to utilize it.
Developing.....

Did NEF really use an Anschutz rail??  Why would they not use an American rail?
Just my Awf Hand comments...

Choate, not NEF uses the Anschultz rail.
You add a bipod adapter which has a stud on it for quick bipod removal.
