Ruger SBH - different ejector rod housing lengths??
« on: March 13, 2006, 08:26:34 AM »
I have a Blue Bisley 45LC with 7.5" barrel and yesterday picked up a Stainless Bisley hunter in .44mag also with 7.5" barrel.  I don't need long barrels and was planning to have the .45 shortened to 5.5".  I just put the guns next to each other and noticed that, while the barrels are the same length, the ejector rods and housings are not (.44mag longer by about an inch).  Since the housing is the barrel-length determining factor, my question is: WHY?  I might have this .44 barrel shortened to about a half-inch in front of the housing (for aesthetics), would like it at 5.5" as well.

The Hunter models and the Super with the 10 1/2" barrel have a housing longer than the other models. :D

Cutting the barrel to the long housing length should result in about a 5 1/2" barrel and it will look very nice. Here's a shot of mine on an OM 357 conversion to 45 Colt. Or you can have a standard lngth one fit to your gun if cut to 4 5/8".
