What, No Shotguns, No 45-70s Just the itty bitty little peanut shooters to shoot dem dangerous little Dirt rats, (aka) Sod Poodles??? We who live in down town Tucumcari, NM are in the center of the best sod poodle shooting in the world, Just 400 miles in any direction. to good Poodle country. In my opinion the 17 Rem is best used for poodle shooting. Although they do a pretty good job on yotes in my opinion. I should be in good shape to shoot PDs as far as rifles goes, Every thing from the 17 to 45-70 including the 375 wby to 416rem. I have a aluminium
table that rotates 360deg that works great for poodle shooting. It can be used in the back of a pick up or on the ground. I used to go up in Kansas to do my shooting But my son don't live there any more so don't know what i will do this year. There is some good towns just south of me but have not contacted any one yet. My guns are all cleaned and ready to go just don't know where to go yet. Have a good day :D ......Joe........

I always tell my son "center mass".........but as we get into it (after the first 50 or so) we require each other to call the hit, head shots are the most common. You get those ones that are just curious enough to poke the top of their head up to check it out....shoot off the exposed parts. good luck and good shootin...............

Here in eastern Mt. we do a little p.dog shooting, too.  I shoot them with an assortment of Contenders; some .222, .223, .22-.250, and .25-06 rifles, also.  I think the .22 cal. Speer 52 gr. HP is the most devastating bullet.  A center hit promotes a lively hydraulic splattering.  I think whoever coined the phrase "Red Mist Society" must have been watching my Win. Heavy Varmint .22-.250 when it was shooting those Speer 52 gr. HP's.  But the coolest shot was two yrs. ago when a friend was trying out his new video camera and got a shot of one I shot with a Rem. .222 and a
50 gr. SX at about 175 yds.  She was a big ol' hog, looking straight at me when I held on her neck and touched off.  You oughta see that film!  Her body fell flat.  But her head flew right off her shoulders and bounced across the prairie.  We were gonna send a copy of the video to Animal Planet but figured they'd see the postmark and bring a team of animal lovers up here to boycott us.

Afriend and my self were sod poodle shooting a couple years ago south of where i live and was having a great time when a couple of P-Dogs came out of a hole and stood side by side one looking west the orher looking east and i cut down on them and you can't belive the Red mist i created, My pard got down on the ground laughing untill he almost passed out. I was shooting some of James Calhoons little 17 cal bullets and they sure do a number on P-dogs, They sure do shoot accurate in my Rem 700 Classic . Well I don't want to Hi-Jack this thread so better go :D  Take care.......Joe..........
