250 savage lever action if you can find one at a gun show.esp. one of the early ones with the narrow fore,it is an elegant looking light weight gun,some of the later  model 99's from the 60's-70's looked a little chunky.or a good 6.5 is real nice to shoot. i've got to get my wife to try them,now that i got her hand gun shooting the next step is long guns.

A 6.5x55 or 7-08 with lighter ( about 120gr ) bullets. But more important
is stock fit. It affects form and balance as well as felt recoil. A quality
pad with a generous eye relief scope as already mentioned is also important. A lower power setting seems easier for new shooters as well.
Just light enough to hold well and no more. A little muzzle weight can be a good thing. Some informal ( fun ) shooting for building confidence ( also important) and your all set.
