My brother brought a family heirloom Winchester down to store in my gun safe with the H&Rs. Just looked, and it has been seriously bit by the rust beast! Will this stuff spread? Am I safe if I clean it and oil it up good and put it in a gun sock?

Anyone got any tips for removing (a lot) of little spots of rust from the barrel and action?

#0000 steel wool and gun oil has always been a good treatment for me.

Rust isn't contagious. Give it a wipe down and once it's had the rust removed try one of the long term storage products, Break-Free and others make special products just for storage.

Someone at Rimfire Central did a test on rust prevention with sections of an old Ruger 10-22 bbl. using several different products and he found
"Corrosion X" to be the best. If I can find the thread again I will post a link.

Thanks, uncle joe, I used oooo steel wool and some Rem oil and it came off pretty good. It didn't remove any bluing, but the barrel does have some pitting now. Sad to see.
