I have worked with the AL DPS Criminal Intell folks on number of cases.  My criminal intell came from the same folks that do the Missing Children and and Amber Alerts.  No question. these are people we need to praise highly!  They do an excellent job.  An INternet site you can go to, Pervert.com will give you lots a of info.  Sex Offenders have to register with the local Sheriff.  They had internet info showing this data. No matter what state you live in, call the Sate Police info. operator and they can direct you to the office you need to speak to.  This and international problem and all state/fed agencies are connected.

Since this topic came up again,
I have a friend, more like a niece, or a daughter. when she was 20 years old there was a stalker after her. She went to school with him. When he was 17 he went to jail for 3 years for watching porn films with a 3 year old girl. They did not push the rape charges because nobody wanted to put the 3 year old through a trial proceeding.
So this guy gets out of jail and immediatly started stalking my friend, well, her father, myself, and her boyfriend went to work with her, escorted her to and fromm her vehicle etc...
He was caught, tried, let loose again, the police said, now that he has been outed, he will leave her alone, and find somebody else to stalk and threaten.
So much for serving ones time, and being a good citizen.
CATCH THEM THE FIRST TIME AND STRING THEM UP, THE SECOND TIME IT JUST MIGHT BE SOMEBODY YOU LOVE AND CHERISH!!

Your site only pulled up 9 in my zipcode, the Alaska State trooper website has a offender registry portion that is somewhat more accurate than the watchdog, our bush city has 33 offenders on the site but my guess is there are a handfull around that are not in the system
Last spring during Petit jury we had a case the guy had been convicted in the past of agrivated sex assult involving a minor (a relative) that was 12 years ago this guy did molest the lady's sister this time he tried to get her 11yro daughter (This guy wasnt in the system) ,
The village to the north has 6
The two villages closest to the east, one has 6 offenders , the other has 5,
The next village to the southest has 12.
from my query all 12 towns & villages in my Borough had at least one offender or more.

Couple years back I checked my town's and found we had a all time high of 52 registerd in our town of 3200.

Pervert.com was what the "girls in the office where my wife worked" used because it was easy.  All your local County Sheriffs, who maintain the registry, and State Police posts can give you much more specific websites to look up.  The good ladies in the AL DPS Criminal Intell ofice never ceased to amaze me with the information they have access to when you have a "need to know" !

I live in a suburb in the Sacramento Valley and perused one of these maps awhile back.    A guy I used to eat lunch with in High School is on the list.    Given that this is a list of sexual predators I was surprised at the distribution of offenses.   In the modest sample of a couple dozen the majority were "Lewd or lascivious behavior with child under 14."

edit :   The color coding on that map isn't always correct.    I've clicked a number of green squares and found the conviction to be an offense against a child.

Why is this thread posted in the Humor forum? The mods don't let any moss grow under their fingers here do they.

As was pointed out earlier in this thread, maps like this can be deceptive.  A drunken college student takes a leak behind a bush and a child sees him and screams.  Mom calls cops, drunken college student is arrested, tried, and convicted of a sex crime against a minor under 14.  Now he is a registered sex offender.

A horny 14 year old gets hot and heavy with his 13 y/o girl friend.  Her parents find out and report him.  He gets arrested and convicted of statutory, etc.  Now he gets to register as a sex offender for the next 70 years.

I'm not saying that all are cases like those, but those types of cases make up a lot of the 'registered sex offenders.'

Heck, with the 'sexting' fad, we are going to see, and in fact are seeing, a huge increase in the number of sex offenders.  I think it was in 09 that two 13 y/o girls took rather explicit nudes of each other with their cell phone cameras and sent them to their boyfriends.  They were convicted for the production and distribution of child pornography.   So for the rest of their lives they too must register as sex offenders.

Just because someone is a 'registered sex offender' ...that doens't tell anything useful. Seems to be that being on such a list might be dangerous... some people will automatically make wrong assumptions, and unfair judgements are likely.

Thanks for the information. I live in a very small town (2500) there were 17 within 7 miles of my home. As far as them paying their debt to society. Society has said you will register for life. If one one these perverts wants to pay his debt to society, then be found in my home at 2:00 AM and they could consider their debt paid.

I agree with GB 100%, the offender served his time, and paid his debt to society.
While I would be concerned if this person lived next to me, I would try to treat him according to the way he behaved.
If the community felt he should have been punished more, they should have done so during sentencing.

The mouse pad I am using right now- 1-800-228-7688-Alabama Bureau Of Investigation-there are some VERY dedicated women in that office who will work with you!  As as former AL State LEO(ret) they were invaluable resources in case resolutions!  I enjoyed multi-year and multi-generational contact with them and they are 110% professional and pro-active.

i have always been ambivalent about these kind of sites. for me it has always reeked of 'witch hunt' - because this information only does two things --- further punish those who may have never been dangerous/served their time; and give people a false sense of the reality of their enviornment. i worked at a Rape Crisis Center (as a child advocate and educator) and i know for a fact that the vast majority (93%) of sexual assaults are commited by someone the victim knows and is comfortable around. That being said - how many of those houses on the map that Doesn't have a dot on it, has someone with the potential to harm? dont be fooled into thinking "oh there are only # in my area code - i can just watch those and be safe"..... situational awareness covers this.
this forever branded thing is misleading. Either someone is good enough to be back in society (now we let them live their lives) or they are not (then maybe we should just execute them).
Not saying there is no such thing as repeat offenders - the recidivism rate is pretty bad- but like all violent crimes - lets judge accordingly not knee jerk cause of the word 'sexual' anything.
of course - IMHO - if someone breaks into my house at 2am with mischief on their mind - we wont have to worry about recidivism in the future..... i am not going to ask if they are Registered or not - i will protect me and mine.

I don't even call it violence when it's in self defense; I call it intelligence.
