Back to the board for some more advise. What is being used out there for recoil protection? The rear of the stock has the as issued metal butt plate and it seems aufully large. It can be painful when it hits my boney shoulders.

Sims makes a Limbsaver slip-on recoil pad.  The reports I hear are that they are very effective.  They come in various sizes. :D

I put a Limbsaver on my Stevens 200 in 308 cal. I can sit at the range and shoot 30 rounds and my shoulder never feels it. Best $28 you will ever spend on recoil protection.

I also put one on my Remington 11-87. I shoot those 3" turkey loads  and in the summer, I occsionally shoot trap. No more black n blue sholder.

Dave.

In addition to the Limbsaver there are the Kick eze and Pachmeyer slip ons that are made from the same material.
