How far from Kansas City do you have to get to get into pure Rio Grande turkeys?  Also how hard is it to find a place to hunt in Kansas?  I only live about 15 miles from the MO river north of KC, so I was thinking I might give it a try.

To find a Rio is quite a way... maybe 3 hours southwest... i've killed 2 in the last 3 years in an area that has both rios and easterns near Independance Kansas... map quest it for how far it is.

For access to land get a WIHA guide at Walmart or any KDWP office.  They offer great ground for walk in hunting at no cost.  While I've never turkey hunted it, i've had great results with upland hunting.

If you're not hung up on shooting a Rio I could give you some great ideas for public ground that has easterns.... and it would be much much closer.
