I just purchased a H R  45 70 Buffalo rifle and was wondering if anyone has a picture of one with scope mounted. I was also wanting to know what kind of scope to use on it and any other info I can find on it,    Thanks in advance

Welcome aboard!! :D There are numerous threads on the H&R Buffalo Classic, take a look at the sticky "Easy Search Tips" on how to best utilize the search feature, lots to see. As far as what scope, depends on whatcha want to do with it. I have a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 Mildot on one of mine for some long range shooting. If you want one for hunting, I would opt for a 2-7x or 3-9x, or maybe a 2½x or 4x fixed.

Short, light, fixed power intermediate eye relief shotgun scopes are handy.
Are less obtrusive than bigger scopes and can be mounted far enough forward to clear the hammer so the hammer spur is not necessary.
I have 4 mounted on Handi barrels.

Choose a scope with long eye relief and a rubber oring on the eyepiece,
once again I have scope eyebrow from shooting my 45-70 from a prone position  Other than the kidding my workmates gave me, I wasn't listening to my wife and she took great delight in pressing her finger on the above scope eyebrow to make her point  .

Before you put a scope on that BC try shooting it awhile with the stock sights. You may be very pleasantly surprised at how accurate it might be that way.

The forend on the BC isn't a mannlicher, that's the schnabel forend that comes on the BC. It's available from H&R, give em a call. If you want a mannlicher forend, they might have some left, they were $35 shipped last year when they found some in their warehouse.

The BC at the top in this pic has a mannlicher forend on it, photo compliments of Deadeye47, bless his soul.

How much eye relief is there?  It would make someone a dandy scope for a scout setup but on a BC, I think you messed up.  Unless it can be mounted far enough foreward on an ultra rail.

When not shooting silly-wets my Classic is a hunting rifle... and a darn good one, I might add.  I can shoot fine with an aperture sight but it severely handicaps me when in the woods with poor light so I tried a scope.

I had an old Weaver Classic 300 (3X) that had crapped out.  I sent it to that guy down in El Paso who repairs old Weavers.  He did a good job for a real reasonable price.  The old scope has a good post reticle.  He put in a new style K4 movement (erector assembly?) in it.  It's a great set-up for a .45-70!  Perfect in low light and also really good on longer range stuff, too.  Well, as far as we should shoot a .45-70 anyway.

I think it has about 16-18 inches of eye relief, oh well I will either try to trade it for another one or put it on my Ruger MK II

I hope I don't get a double-post here.  I just got kicked off-line when I hit the SUBMIT button.

Boy, you guys are fast.  Yes, the info for Weaver Scope Repair was correct.  I hope you like his service as well as I did.  I think my repair was only $39... very reasonable.

:D   Hello all,
I'm new to the forum, this was prescribed by my Doctor (wife) as therapy for my recently contracted disorder.  At first she thought it was rabies, after much testing its been determined to be obsesive compulsive disorder with a fixation on my new BC.
I know I'm telling yall that the sky is blue with this one but, I have never had more fun with a rifle ever!  I got it as a Christmas present from the Miss's and I have'nt put it down yet.  I have finally commited to a full time life of reloading to. (Funs been gettin' a little expensive.)  Things are looking up.
I just wanted to say thanks to yall for some interesting reading.  I have been reading this forum since I received the rifle and have gleened some quality advice.  Also thanks to Quicktoo for the information about the "Squire Fore Arm" aka Mannlicher.  I called the H&R yesterday and bought a matching set for the 45-70 and one for my sons .270 SB2.  (Another excellent shootin' iron I must say.)  I'm afraid I'll start biting mail men if they dont get here quick.
Again thanks for a great forum and look forward to corresponding with yall.

You only have 2 sources for the base, H&R and the Weaver #82, you can get the base and hammer extension from H&R, call em to order, phone number is in the FAQ and Help.

http://hr1871.com/store/index.htm

There are many threads on what rings, use the search function to find  those threads to help you decide, that's something only you and the scope you want to use can determine.
