I am getting ready to purchase my first TC and I would greatly appreciate some advice.

Which way to go G2 or Encore and why?

1st I reload so wildcats are not a problem

2nd I will most of the time be shooting from a rest so weight is not a big factor.

3rd I am trying to get the real difference between the two other than what is on their website.

4th I will buy a pistol so later on I can buy rifle stock and barrels.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated :grin:

The quick and simple answer is that (as manufactured) the G2 can use rimfire barrels and the Encore can fire higher pressure cartridges. Other than that they are both quality pistols capable of top notch accuracy with plenty of power for hunting.

The G2 can use a greater selection of cheap used barrels, which can be a factor. All of the Encore barrels will be relatively recent manufacture and will cost more.

Doesn't matter, once you buy one you will be infected with the awful TC dissease and you'll end up with a whole safe full any way. KN

KN has it right. I started with the G2 for the same reasons Joe mentioned above. However, one thing led to another and now I own 2 G2's and 2 Encore's. :eek: Thing is now I have most needs covered. It boils down to what you intend to do with it. If your thinking it will be just plinking with some deer hunting; then the G2 will meet your needs just fine. If you like the hard stuff, high pressure calibers that is; then you can't go wrong with the Encore.

Either way you are in for some fun! :grin:

I agree with REDHAWK1,go with the ENCORE.Having said that I am contemplating purchasing an OTT barrel in 22LR or using the no rimfire excuse to buy a G2!? :? :? I have the best WIFE in the world who also loves to hunt and fish(she shot the only deer 2 years ago,I caught alot of razzing over it but I WAS AT LEAST AS PROUD IF NOT PROUDER THAN SHE WAS!!)so I probably wont need the "excuse".She does want her own ENCORE though! :roll:

I cannot comment on the G2 or the Encore.
I have the old style Contenders. They do everything I have ever wanted including taking varmints, deer, and competition shooting. I shoot muzzle loader for elk or I probably would have taken an elk by now with one. Would not hesitate to shoot a bear or anything else walking the Continental US with one.

The G2s and Encores are supposed to do more. Is there more?
