I am looking at a 917 marlin or a 717M2. I will be using it for pest control and plinking. Whats with the T900 trigger? thanks guys.

John,

Please read these threads on the 917...

The 17M2 is a cheaper plinker at less than $6 a box compared to the $7-$8 or more for 17hmr.

Can't help ya on the 717M2, but I've read of lots of happy owners at Marlinowners.com and Rimfirecentral.com

I opted for the 17M2 and have never looked back!
It has the same report as a standard HV 22lr, doesen't tear up a squirrel for hunting, is accurate enough to hit a dime at 50 yards consistantly, will also shoot into a nickle at 100 yards, cheeper than shooting high quality target ammo for the .22, kills with much more zapp than it looks like it should, it's cute  and just plain fun to shoot.
The reason I chose it over the 17HMR.
HMR is LOUD, it's too much for hunting meat game, not realy enough for coyote (my primary varmit shooting) more $$ to shoot.

  Just my 2cents.

I have had both calibers and now only have an HM2.  The HMR just did not serve any purpose for me other than being accurate to shoot.  The HMR is too powerful for squirrel hunting but not powerful enough for much else.  The HMR damaged my spinners and the HM2 does not.  The HMR is awful expensive to shoot for what it is and I always had fliers that I do not have with the HM2.  To me the HM2 is just a 100 yard or less gun that is fun and fairly inexpensive so shoot that is capable of shooting squirrel and smaller varmits or just target shooting with.
