Sightron 6-24X vs Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24X

Anyone want to throw out some new experience with either the Sightron SII 6-24X or Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24X scopes? While I search for for an action to build my smallbore hunter rifle on, I think I'm going to also go ahead and get a new scope for it. I'm currently using a Sightron 24X and while the tracking is wonderful, the glass quality isn't quite as wonderful and I've occasionally wanted to back off the power a bit (mirage, etc.). Don't get me wrong, the glass quality on the Sightron is better than a lot of my scopes that cost more, but it's not as good as the Elite 4200. The Sightron seems to be better for adjustment (best I've ever seen, actually) and weight. The Elite seems to be better for glass quality and Rainguard (I've fogged my scope a few times exhaling as I mount the rifle). I also read in a post a while back on here about an Elite 4200 having 40, 60, 77, and 100m marked on the AO, but I don't recall seeing that on any that I've handled. Did I just miss it? The difference in price between the two scopes is less than $50, so that really isn't a factor for me. I'll also probably be getting a larger dot installed in whichever I choose.

I've read Dan's write-up on scopes. I'm just wondering if anyone has any new experience to share before I make a decision. Thanks!

I'll throw my opinion your way.  I really like the Bushnell 4200's.  An issue that you may consider is weight.  The Bushnell is heavy, and this is a big consideration in building a hunter gun.  As an action, I would/did go with a 1712 barraled action from Neal Stepp in Texas, and a light weight sythetic stock from Mark Pharr in Texas.  Both are on order, and I don't remember the exact estimated weight, but this combo should allow me to mount the Bushnell with room to spare.  Thats my best guess at the same problem.  
If you're shopping, I think the optics zone and Graf's has 6x24's for about $400 and they also list the scope weights.  1712 action was under $900, I forget the stock price.
I have a 24X Weaver silhoutte scope sitting on the shelf because the optics are not as crisp as the Bushnell.  Some people don't mind a little less glass quality, but I have a bum lasik shooting eye, and great glass is essentail to me.  My other eye is 20/20, but I need really good glass in my shooting eye or it distracts me.  All the (6x24 and 8x32) 4200's I have seen have the 40/60/77/100 markings.  
I personally never heard any thing but good comments about 4200's, I did hear poor comments about Sightron quality control.  Again, thats not too valid, but thats what I hear. I don't have any extended experience with Sightron, just looked throught a few.

Thanks for the reply. I'm fairly set on the Bushnell. I had a line on one new in the box for barely over $300, but I didn't get back to the guy in time and he sold it. I also found two guns that I've been looking for for months yesterday and am buying them both today, so I have to hold off on the scope anyway to keep from dropping too far back in my saved up "play money" in case I find a gun for the donor action for my custom.  :lol:

I'm looking for one of the 54.18 MSRs right now just to get the 54 action with the 5018/5022 trigger. I'm considering the 1712 barreled action but I think I'm just going to wait and get the one I really want before I drop a lot more money into having it made into a custom. It would be great to just go ahead and buy the 54.18 repeater barreled action right now, but it's over $1250 so I might be better off to just look for a complete used gun for now. You never know, though, I might cave and do it. I'm getting pretty anxious.
