CZ 452 - 17 HMR or .22 LR?
« on: March 23, 2006, 03:43:20 PM »
I want the varmint version. I've read great reviews on these rifles and I want one ! I plan on shooting this at my indoor range at 35 yards. I may shoot it at 50 yards outdoors but not awhole lit. I live in Long Island, NY and outdoor ranges here are far from me. I also want a fixed scope for it, not a variable. I'm only doing paper targets, not hunting. I have to go upstate for that and that doesn't happen at all !.

Whats more accurate, 17 HMR or .22 LR?

Best price I've seen on the CZ 452 is at Whittakers...

If 50 yds is the farthest you are going to be shooting I would go with the 22lr. If you plan on shooting a lot, the ammo price will eat you alive in 17HMR compared to 22lr.   KN

There's always the 17M2, less expensive to shoot than the 17hmr, just as accurate as the 17hmr and much flatter shooting than the 22Lr....it's also only $320, same as the 22Lr at Whittakers.

For what you want .22lr would be the way to go, Besides I don't know about your range but a lot of handgun ranges will not allow the little 17 rounds.

I agree with the rest: if you are going to shoot this at 50 yards and less no reason to use anything other than .22.  That is the best choice all around for what you want.  Have a good time!

I'm with the other's if you will be just shooting 50 yds. then go for the 22 lr. If you will ever get a chance to shoot over 50 yds then get the 17hmr its accurrate past 100 yds... :D

I have both. I shoot the .22 more often. I can get five boxes of Winchester Power Points - the preferred fodder of my 452 American when I can get them - for the approximate cost of one box of HMRs.
