warne rings?

i know this probably sounds stupid, but is it okay to attach the warne rings (steel) to a weaver style base (aluminum)? just want to make sure that there is no risk of smashing the aluminum base when i tighten the rings up.

They work great on the Weaver bases also.  :D

for an encore with no hammer extension, what size do you think i need? i really don't want it too tall. i was thinking of a medium height. the largest scope i will use would be a 44mm obj.

You will have to check it out with the scope you intend to use.  I am using medium rings with my Leupold 3X9X40, and I am not having to use a hammer extension.  :D

I have warne maxima bases and rings on three of my rifles now.  An Encore 209X50, Encore .223, and a Savage .338-06.  All are medium height rings.  On the Encore set-up this allows for ample room between the eyepiece of the scope and the hammer.  Even with gloves on there is no need for a hammer extension.  

Should be 'bout the same with the weaver-style base.

They're fine, so long as you use the Weaver-style Warne rings.  Warne also has their own mounting method for some rings which will not work (not because of the steel/alum issue, but because of the actual mating surfaces don't match up).

BTW, Weaver also makes a good line of steel bases in the Grand Slams.  I've got Warne bases on my Savage 110, but on a few other guns I've used the Weaver Grand Slams and found them to be just as good, and they usually run a few $$ cheaper.
