looking at buying one of these chinese m 14 . anyone had any experiance with one? the price sure is attractive.

If you're talking about the Marstar price, I agree, $399 is dirt cheap.

I called them to find out the weight and to comment on a rumour I'd heard that you can't shoot 180 gran bullets in them without damaging the gun, and the guy on the phone couldn't help me with either question.

There are a lot of threads on them over at canadiangunnutz if you want to look in.

You guys had me ready to buy?? But thats the canadian price here its higher. I have seen them for $600 here. I want to get something that shoots cheap military 308 too. I was looking at both norinco M14's and a French MAS 49/56 in 308 too. They had trouble with the 49/56 in 308 but the bugs can be worked out and you end up with a great little rifle. I like the 49/56 in 7.5 french its a fun little shooter similiar to shooting/handling an SKS but a little more ("BANG") power. I like the M14 too its a proven design too. My only experience with norinco is the sks's and they are down right so reliable and fool proof they take a licking and keep on ticking. I beat up one constantly and it just keeps working. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a norinco M14 either. BigBill

Of course when I get some more mad money again. Gun show here tomorrow ya just never know what you will find.

I bought one in about 93 or 94. They shoot great the only question was a persistent rumor that the locking lugs were not heat treated enough. I didn't shoot it much and traded it to a viet marine that wanted it for nostalgia. He traded me a British L1A1. Now there is a shooter! :eek:

I've had one of these for years, it's been a great rifle. I haven't experimented much with it, pretty much just shot surplus 7.62x51, PMC, Winchester 308 and played with one box of Federal Match 308.

Off a solid bench with surplus ammo it would do 3-4" groups at 100 yards. With the match stuff it would do 2-2.5".

One of the nice things about these rifles is you can get one cheap to play with, and it still makes a solid base to build a true match rifle from if you ever decide you need one. Even then you'll still be ahead of what a match grade M1A from Springfield might cost.

I have had a few for years and I think they are among the best on the market for building a match rifle. Most of the chineese parts realy suck and wear out faster than gi. Just get it, make sure it is safe to shoot with proper headspace and all, and shoot the crap out of it. In the meantime start collecting usgi match parts. get everything for it usgi. when you wear it out have it rebuilt with all the parts you collected and your ability and your rifles will be a whole lot better when it comes back from the smith. Do make sure you check headspace. That is the problem I hear about most often. Also they are supposedly forged receivers. I don't know if they are or not but I did check the hardness on mine and they are exactly the same as a piece of a gi receiver I have I actualy tried a file on an inconspicuous area and it wouldn't get into it.
