Hey MT long time no hearum.  Some of us get to trap until Jan, some until March and then there are those softies that get to sit out the hard months and start back in the warmth of spring air.  Unfortunately I'm in the middle group and just got done hanging up my traps.

I have settled in on pogo type stakes...1.5 inch flat washers for those who may not be familar.  However, in my soil I find it very beneficial to pound in a pilot hole before attempting to drive any stake.

Wacky  I'm going to stick with Iowa disposables,18" of 1/8" 7X7 cable. It is a real hassle driving a pilot hole, then getting the pilot back out. Thanks

You can stick all you want.  But if you don't like to stick get some old rifle barrels and use them for your drivers and pilots...they are tappered and pull with ease.

As long as you are happy, that's all you can ask out of life, right?
All is well here. Didn't get a cat at all this winter, but not from lack of effort. Just have not seen the sign lately that I used to see years ago on areas I have access to. Funny thing when prices creep up, everyone is a cat trapper again. When you couldn't give them away for $15 bucks from this region, I could find tracks everywhere and had fun trying/learning how to trap them.
Have a little one on the way in October now, so I should be good and sleepless come season opener.
Hope you are doing well.
Jim

Rig the craddle between a bungee to a post and a rope to your foot, that a way you can rock the little monkey to sleep while you skin and flesh.

I have managed to increase my cat population nicely by releasing the shes and kittens.  So far I have not had a bunch of problems with fellows moving in on me.  Of course my ranchers know I was there for them when the prices were low and know I will be there when they drop.  All in all things are well here.  Now all I have to do is get real lucky and keep the humaniacts at bay.

rig the cradle to rock the little monkey while I skin and flesh...that's priceless...

The mrs. would shoot me, but it would be funny, wouldn't it? If I do that, I'll post some pics up next season for you. I'll just say that wacky suggested it to me to try...

Eyes jist tryin to B helpful...don't cha know?

And any body that can't afford a burned out barrel can't afford to be trapping anyhow.
