sb2 reciever
« on: March 25, 2006, 07:10:57 AM »
Can I use my 30-40 Kraig barrel on a sb2 reciever serial # NLxxxxxx? I just bought this rifle and it has a 223 barrel and a green camo laminate stock set. I just bought it so I could use some of my extra barrels on it.....

Looks like your receiver was manufactured in 1997. You might want to call Customer Service to see if higher pressure barrels could be fitted for sure, then you would know it to be safe.

You're looking for a N or later if you want to be able to order barrels marked with * an asterisk on the accessory barrel page.

Barrel Accessory Program

Additional barrels may be added to firearms of our manufacture since 1987 only, with a serial number that begins with N or H. We do not install additional barrels on any other manufacturerÂ’s firearms.
Additional barrels are available as additional barrels only. We will not exchange barrels for existing barrels on shotguns and rifles, as it will change the model.
Rifle frames may be fitted with additional rifle, shotgun, and muzzleloader barrels.
Shotgun frames may be fitted with additional shotgun and muzzleloader barrels only.
We do not sell additional barrels outright. All barrels must be factory fitted.
We do not sell barrel blanks or do custom calibers.
In order to obtain an additional barrel(s), the stock, forend and frame (receiver) must be sent to us so they may be properly hand-fitted to the barrel, to be sure they are correctly head-spaced and proof-tested.

Ken:
I've used 30-40 Krag barrels on old Toppers and SB2s. I've never had any problems when loading to factory duplicaton loads. I would not hesitate to use a 30-40 on any H&R Topper or NEF RIFLE action. My new 30-40 is on a early SB2 action, which is NOT approved for the current high pressure barrels. This last few days I've been putting Remington and Winchester factory 180 gr loads thru it, and my favorite handload. Shoot and enjoy.

This reciever and my 30-40 barrel is an exact fit. It locks up tight, no space and no movement of the barrel after lockup. I plan to just set this up as a complete rifle and leave it that way. The odd thing about these barrel dates is that I have two older recievers that H&R will not fit the high pressure barrels on. One came from the factory with a 243 barrel and the other with a 270. Figure that one out....Thanks Wally

Yup! I have a receiver that came with a .308 barrel but they won't install any high pressure barrels on it! :?:

They won't fit any high pressure barrel on any reciever made before the current take over....I had a RMEF 35 Whelen that I wanted other barrels for it..Nope..no can do..It may seem strange..but such is the way of it..and I don't think you could ever change their minds on it either...
