T/C for recoil shy shooters?

I have been considering an Encore in .243 for a family member that is interested in doing a little deer hunting.  She is recoil sensitive, and likes aperture sights vs. scopes.  

My question is, is anybody here familiar with BOTH the Encore in .243 and Contender carbine in .30-30 (regular or AI).  It seems to me that if I'm gonna add a williams peep to the rifle instead of a scope, the .30-30 would serve just as well if recoil is comparable, plus have a heavier bullet, for a little extra margin of effectiveness (or my piece of mind, call it what you will).

The Encore in 243 with a Simms recoil pad is very light in the recoil department. Get it with the new Pro-hunter stock and forearm, it reduces recoil 43%.  :D

The recoil in a 30/30 Contender Carbine will be more than in an Encore 243 Winchester.  The 243 also has more inherent accuracy so, of the choices given that is what I would go with.

I have a T/C Encore in .257 Roberts and love it-------The recoil is very managable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All mentioned are fine choices, as well as  the 7x30 Waters, 260, 7mm-08, 6mm Rem, and 250 Savage.  The 250 is very efficient and has a very light recoil.  Its Ackley Improved version is very potent and can really reach out there with little powder.  

The 7mm-08 can be loaded with lighter bullets and has little recoil with those smaller bullets.

I have heard that the new 6.8 may be a good choice for a light recoil deer cartridge, but have yet to see one in person or shoot one.  

The 30-30 you mentioned is a good choice, and fine for aperture sight shooting.   You can also load the 30-30 with lighter bullets for hunting deer.  

You will need to go the custom route for many of the cartridges, since TC doesn't production chamber some of them.

I have a 23" barrel in 6.8 and with a 110 grain bullet in a Contender I believe it recoils much like my Savage 111 in .243 shooting 80 grainers.

All are great cartridges / 7mm-08 is my choice now / 12 pounds recoil is nothing but it's a shooter.

I like them all ... you'll probably master things with less recoil - bullseyes inside of bullseyes most days / golf balls at 200 yds  :D

I have one also and it is a light recoil gun, I did not think of it when I gave my response.  :D

any of the above calibers and a good recoil pad.  I think that the Encore stock design mitigates recoil very well.  (at least that it seems to fit my body frame, and does not kick as bad as my bolt guns in the same calibers in terms of felt recoil.  I think that you are right on track by choosing the Encore

wife and recoil

I have a walnut Encore in 243 and my wife shoots it on a regular basis,
(paper only) I put a pre fit limbsaver on it and she asked if I boght a smaller caliber because it didn't seem to kick as much. With this combo
243 / walnut / limbsaver you cant go wrong. The only time the words wife and recoil will be used at the same time is when she finds out how much we spend on these things once we get hooked.
