CVA cap and ball pistol
« on: March 26, 2006, 05:45:34 AM »
At least 25 years ago, bought a CVA 1858 Remington Army .44 cal percussion/brass frame KA633 kit, assembled it and then put it in a display case where its been ever since.  Got back into shooting and reloading my modern rifles after retiring and am toying with idea of finally trying it out.  Any comments out there about shooting the CVA.

Get after it!  Have fun.  That's what you built it for.  While good solid pieces, the CVA's will never be heirlooms.  Enjoy.

I have a CVA kit gun,1861 colt navy .44,that I built in 1983.My gunsmithing skills were somewhat lacking back then,Ive improved!!But the gun shoots great and has been very reliable.I know brass frames are frowned on,this one is still tight.Yes,I shoot light loads20-25 gr FFFg.My kit was actually made by ASM,I know alot of folks poo poo ASM cap-n-ballers but Ive have several and have had no issues.Shoot it!!
