Any one shooting the new 28" pro-hunter barrels yet? If so how is it shooting? What kind of m. v. are you getting?

I have a Pro Hunter barrel in 243. I haven't shot it to much yet just worked up two loads, 58gr vmax & 65gr vmax and tried one factory load Federal 70gr BT. It will shoot the factory Federal load pretty well about 1" at 100.

I still have some work to do with the hand loads but velocity with both loads was about 150fps faster than my 243wssm with almot identical loads.  I am going to try again next weekend and will take a 24" barreled 243 to shoot the same loads out of both barrels.
So far I like this Encore 28" barrel it balances good and is still 2" shorter overall than my 24" barreled Mod 70 coyote .

That sure is good info. It is alot better than a 243WSSM when you get that performance. It makes me wonder what a 243AI with 105 A-Max would do
in this barrel.

I don't think a 243AI will clean up the chamber but a 6mmAI will. I called Manson Reamers before I even ordered the barrel and for $90 I can get a reamer for 6mmAI or 6-284 or you could go 6mm06. I think the twist is 10" so it should work with that 105 A-Max but probably should be 8" for the heaveir VLD's , I'm going to try it in 243 for now and then rechamber it or get another barrel to rechamber with a tighter neck.
If your interested I'll post more on it after I shoot both 243's with the same loads and 4" barrel difference.

I am glad you brought this up & I was careless for not mentioning what I was really thinking about. I believe that later & who knows when, the
Custom Shop will have Pro Hunter barrels in AI rounds like they have available in standard length barrels now.

For anyone who doesn't know this, you cannot re-chamber to an AI round in the Encore because the barrel has to be set back & of course this is not practical with a lug set-up like the Encore barrel. This comes up in the Handi section as well & the same problem exists. Sorry I did not explain that.

Yes, I sure would be interested. I believe the 105 A-Max will do well in your 243 barrel because of your velocity.
