Hello I am from Western MN and use to buy my blackmag3 powder from Cabelas. They no longer carry it. I need to find a new supplier. Can anyone hlep me out? Thank your for you time Dave

I think they may be out of business. Blackmag3 powder did not take off like they thought it would.

Its no wonder it didn't take off. It was only available in a few locations. Mostly mail order and I wasn't about to pay the hazmat fee. I was really looking forward to trying it if it became available. Now it seems impossible. Now I have it narrowed to two powders 777 and American Pioneer. To this point APP gets the nod, but since I bought the 25 ACP breech plug I'll expirement more with 777.

Triple7 is all I will shoot. I have not had as good of results with anything else.

It comes up for me, maybe it was just down. :?

I've never tried the stuff since it's too hard to find. I use components that are easy to get in case I run out right before hunting season. This stuff doesn't fit the bill.

I bring the website up with no trouble. Maybe it was just down for maintainence? Hopefully it was just a rumor.

I guess it was just a rumor, but I don't ever see it in any of the gun shops I go to. Also I asked about it and they just don't have a demand for it.

Must have been down, has been down many times...for what it's worth, I've tried to go to it several times in the past. Since Cabelas dumped it, there must be a problem of some sort, maybe with supply, maybe a conflict with APP sponsorship and Shockey??? Maybe Keith L will check in on it, he's a BM3 aficionado.

I guess I'm fortunate that there is a shop within 30 miles that carries it. I haven't had any trouble with 777 though so I haven't tried it yet. I am going to shoot my Knight a lot this summer though so maybe that will be something to try out.

I have had recent communication with some of the Black Mag'3 people. They were at the shot show and they are working on a newer form using the solid version with a bullet attached. Personally I wish they would work harder getting the distribution system together. It is pretty available in the east but not west of the Mississippi. I am trying to find out what happened with Cabelas. We don't have any Cabales in the west anyway. I was hoping that Sportsmans Warehouse might start carrying it. As far as other powder you might give the goex Pinnacle a try. I have some of that which I have not had time to evaluate. It is somewhat easier to find than the Black Mag'3 which is still my prefered powder especially in my tight barrel Omega.

This is from an older post December or so from another site. HODGEGON hands down is the leader in extream spread,and SD which should yield the best accuracy in a muzzleloader.

This is from the latest issue of Petersons Hunting.
#'s are in order of Extream spread, Std. dev., Ave. Vel, Accuracy "@100 yards

Goex Pinnacle E-z load, 217, 80, 1930, 3.5"
Goex pinnacle FFG, 216, 82, 1798, 3.2"
Black mag 3, 115, 47, 2014, 1.8"
Hodgedon Pyrodex pell., 23, 9, 1758, 2.0"
Hodgedon 777 pellets, 8, 4, 1839, 1.1"

These were 100 gr loads usind the 250 gr barnes red hot bullet shot from an Omega. T/C does not authorize 777's use because they advertize a 150 gr max load which 777 @ 150 gr. has over 15% more power than parodex, and the pressure curve is faster than most other substitutes. In fact maximum loads with 777 can be hotter (more pressure) than the milder smokeless loads used in the savage. You cannot use 150gr. 777 loads in any muzzloader but the savage.

I think i will stick with 777. The crud ring in my tight barreled Encore isn't severe enough to bother me. 70gr 777 ffg pushing a 200gr Shockwave 3 shot groups and one ragged hole.

I was told by some friends at Cabelas in Owatonna that Magkor was not willing to increase advertising to promote the product ( either in the Cabelas catalog or nationally).

I would suspect that they were not willing to pay for space in Cabelas catalog as they charge a truck load of money just to have product in thier catalog.

I have what I believe is an accurate report that Magkor had some problems (growing pains) with a few batches of powder that were not up to their standards and they stopped production until the kinks could be worked out. I also understand that they are starting to refill the system with the re-checked powder. They are definately not out of business. I also am concerned with the lack of availability of the powder since it works better than anything else in my Omega for hunting. I understand that Magkor is doing something to help correct the lack of distribution. I get as good results for accuracy with Pyrodex but I cannot put up with the fouling when hunting. I believe the clumping problem has been corrected although I never experienced it with the cans I bought almost two years ago. Those of you that want to try it should put the request in to your shops; I think the shops can buy direct without haveing to go through a distributor. (not positive about this but the shops can ask). If we don't ask for it there is no demand.

I bought a pound of BlackMag3.
I wanted to try it in my cap and ball pistol, because Magkor billed it as "non corrosive."
I noticed that Cabelas did not bill it as "non corrosive."
Well, Magkor is a liar. I did a corrosion test in a cap and ball pistol and nearly ruined the gun. I fired one cylinder only. I meant to go check on it in 3 days.
Oops! I forgot, and waited 30 days. Thank God I did run an oiled patch down the bore after firing.
The cylinder and hammer were all rusted up.
I was able to clean it up after 3 hours and it works fine now, just a little stiff on the trigger pull.
So kiss my butt Magkor, for being a liar, I would rather buy honest, cheap black powder for my cap and ball pistols.
