Hi all,

I have a Savage Classic Model 114 that I need help with.

Open box, remove, umm, nice rifle.

Look in box, see a horseshoe shaped blued piece of rifle, umm, not good.

Look in owners manual, discover that this is the Rear Baffle Assembly from the bolt.

What's the best way to get this piece back where it belongs? From the "Manual" Savage provided (with a no bolt disassembly procedures provided) it looks to me like 1) remove the bolt screw, 2) remove the bolt handle, 3) install Rear Baffle Ass. Any insights? Anything I'm not seeing here?

Any Savage bolt disassembly experts out there? I'd be much grass :?

Yep, that's all there is to it. I think it's a 1/4 inch allen wrench for the screw. I usually just hold the bolt down on the bench and use the handle for leverage to get the screw to break loose. Do make sure the baffle has its springs and balls in place, or it will rattle around. There is a groove on the right side of the bolt body that the balls slide into, that way you make sure it's going on in the right direction. Put it back together, torque down the screw, and you're in business.

I'm wondering why in blazes was it in the box and not the rifle! Is anything else missing in action or improperly assembled?

Thanks Nobade, that's what I thought but as you probably know some things aren't as simple as they may appear :shock: Any torque value for the screw that you know of? Locktite screw??

Gunnut- I was wondering the same thing while muttering explatives about Savage QA weenies :evil: It's a very pretty rifle ( I won it in a raffle at the local Friends of the NRA banquet). I've never owned a Savage personnely but the ones that my friends own that I've shot have been very accurate. I'll be contacting Savage to give them an earful :x

Like I need another deer rifle but I guess a fella can't have to many spares :-D

For shame for shame, to even mention the 'too many gun' frase! There is no such thing! The new savages with the accutrigger are quite interesting..

Good News! I called Savage ready to give somebody a butt chewing. I was put on to a very nice lady in their Tech department who explained how to get the rear baffle on without disassembling the bolt. Turn the baffle 90 degrees and place it the narrow part of the bolt, slide it back into place, and rotate into place so ball detent is in the grove. Simple. Apparently the baffle came off when somebody along the line was handling it. Got to go shot it now :grin:
