I'll be honest
« on: March 30, 2006, 05:36:03 PM »
Well guys..after about maybe 4 years of serfing around several internet gun forums and being member to about 5 I'd like to share somthing interesting about myself.

At first, I simply read most peoples opinions and what not on the boards until I finally decided to post on here. From what I have seen on most forums was maybe a little underestimation of some people due to some basic facts about themselves. Age seemed to be one that sparked my mind at the time. I would see posts that young, unexperienced kids would put up and most people would out of pure human nature talk different maybe to them? Not so much different maybe, but just at a different point of view I guess. Well, to sum things up, I pretty much looked at this like if I began straight out with my age, people wouldn't take me so seriously on several topics. Im sure some of you might have guessed but Im only 16 years old.

I don't know about any of you fellas, but I just looked back on some of my posts and noticed that I don't really tend to act my age when Im on here or any gun sites. And it is really wierd to me because I have never actually said anything that could hint me into being either a young teenager or adult. I mean comon now, I only have my permit.  :-D

Now, my point to this post was just to let some of you know who better you are talking to now that I have worked up and tried to maintain a good reputation on these boards. My entire ordeal with not mentioning my age was because I was afraid of maybe not being included into a more involved conversation about guns in general.

So to put things in a nutshell, Im sure some of you might be surprised maybe to see that Im not even old enough to personally own a firearm even though I do have quite a collection for my age I think.

Hildy

BTW- If this is in the wrong forum Im sorry, I just thought it would be a good place because I post here the most.

I personally appreciate views from all ages. I have found that even the most experianced wisest oldest man, can forget the small things that attribute to whats admirable about youth. And some talk down to it, cause deep inside they miss what they haven't got any longer. I also believe in balance and respect for my elders. They are older than me, and have seen things I will never be able to. It's advantageous to learn from them.
It weighs out this forum to have all age groups contribute..and learn..from each other.
No one knows it all, though some may feel that way :)

Thanks for sharing Hildy, I had a pretty good idea how old you were from you posts on RFC. The give away was when you made references to certain events or acts that date you. Books tend to color things one way but experience tends to color them differently and that dates each of us. Each generation experiances their time on earth differently and shares that common bond with each other. Learn from the previous and share with the next.

Hildy,

We can all learn from each other.  The old guy who's been making the same mistakes for years might find out there is a better way to do things from someone who is just starting out and researching the best way to do them.  I really did not see anything in your posts to identify you as any age.  Be yourself, be safe and have fun!

Hildy,
I can understand how you feel, I am 25 and a business owner.  When I was starting out I was very self concious about my age, afraid people wouldn't take me seriously.  And in the construction industry how would the "oldtimers" ever listen to a young punk like me with these wild ideas, right?  I found out soon enough that age was not the problem I thought it was, if you are a good person, with respect for others you will be respected.  I learn just as much from my summer helpers as I do from my 20+ year journeymen.

I used to post on a local forum up until a year ago, and quite because nobody respected other peoples opinions or ideas.  It used to be a great place to share information and learn from others, now it is just a place for people to boost there egos and talk down to other members.  This is definetly not the case with this group of guys here.  The people on this board really help each other out and make you feel like family.  I see no reason for you to be hide your age at all or hold back from sharing your ideas.  Remember respect others and they will respect you.

Sorry if I got a little long winded here.  Just wanted to let you know it's not a big issue.

Age and maturity do not always vary in direct proportion, no matter that it may seem that it ought to.

I am 44 years old, have been hunting most of them.  Hunted with black powder guns, now 30+ years.  If was not for the younger wife of 10 years, I would have never bought  that quick twist inline rifle.  That kills deer dead in there tracks.  I would still be using my old round ball guns and chasing blood trails through the night.  So there is nothing wrong with us old timers learning something new from you young whipper snappers.  Keep informing us of the good work..............JB

I don't share my age for the same reason, judged accordingly. Although some here know how old (or at least the age bracket) that I'm in.
The fact that you didn't share your age Hildy shows a nugget of wisdom far beyond your years and now you've got my respect as a result. Quite frankly if I were guessing, I would have guessed you to be a mature adult.
Good post on a good subject.

Thanks everybody for listening. I am glad everybody can understand where I am coming from and I can see others points too.

Out of alot of people I associate with online, I will admit that this has to be the best place I have found for generous and understanding people.

So I guess you guys all concluded this for me...we are all a big family of hunting and shooting nuts, no matter the age.

Thanks to everybody :D
