WalMart to Stop Selling FIREARMS???
« on: March 30, 2006, 08:33:51 PM »
WalMart has a great section on their website called 'Special Order Guns and Ammunition' ( http://www.walmart.com/guns )
where you can order rifles, shotguns and ammo.  You're supposed to just pick out what you want to buy, print an order form, take it to your local store, and they will order the firearm.  The selection and prices look real good.  They have Encore frames & barrels, Browning, Weatherby, Remington, Marlin, Beretta, Taurus, Savage, Ruger and more.

Since we don't have a decent local gun dealer, and WalMart doesn't charge for shipping, I thought I'd try them.  After placing the order and waiting (and waiting... and waiting...) they finally said that they were dropping firearms completely, even the local purchases.  Calling two other WalMarts in west central Indiana got the same answer - NO MORE FIREARMS!

What's going on?  Will all WalMarts stop selling guns?  What about ammo?  Did the anti-gun lobby get to WalMart?

One can only hope.  If Walmart quits selling guns, and you don't have a dealer, then I see a business opportunity for you.

Could it be the reason you don't have a gun dealer is that Walmart has forced them out of business?

Old news, their target date of getting all guns out of the non-selling stores in April 1st, only the stores with the top 600 firearms sales will be selling firearms, that makes about 1000 stores that will drop sales.

When ordering a firearm from them, they're supposed to check their supplier's inventory to let you know if it's available. You can check too which is wise, Sports South has an online inventory web site at

News travels slow here in west central Indiana - our telegraph service is down while they upgrade to release 2.0, the repair wagon broke a spoke again, horse has the staggers, IT manager Clem run off with a jezebel, etc, etc.

So, from browsing those strings I gather that only the biggest WalMart gun sellers will continue to sell firearms.  Most WalMarts will continue to sell ammunition and gun supplies.  Some WalMarts might have guns on clearance.

I'm not clear on how to tell which WalMarts will sell guns.  One thread said that store managers would have a list, but my local store does not have that list.  Isn't it posted somewhere on the Internet?  I've called the 3 closest, biggest WalMarts and they're not going to carry guns. I'd hate to have to call all of the WalMarts within 200mi of Lafayette.

Are the prices on the WalMart website going to be honored?

Use the store locator on their home page to find stores, then call em to see if they are going to to sell firearms. If the firearms web site disappears, you'll know they discontinued that option.
