Barrel diameter Question..
« on: March 31, 2006, 03:52:32 PM »
I am hoping some of the more confirmed "Handi-Haulics" here can answer this one for me...

Are the latest model Ultra Varmint .22 magnum,17HMR Sportster and centerfire Ultra and Handi Bull barrels all the same basic contour?

I ask because while the new .22mag Ultra Varmint and the centerfire bull barrels look pretty close, from the pics I have seen, the 17HMR bull barrels look a bit thinner ..

Can anyone help? It would be much apreciated... :D

Dunno about current production and I don't have a 22Mag bull barrel, but all the bull barrels I have measure tween .750" and .800" at the muzzle if that helps any.

Thanks for all the info guys.I truly do apreciate it!

I guess the pics I have seen of the 17HMR Sportster barrels are a bit decieiving as those measurements jive with others I have seen for the Bull Barreled Handis and Ultras so they are all actually the same contour probably only differing in length on certain models.

This makes sense as these are economy rifles and more barrel contours equals more manufacturing hassle and expense for H&R.

Companies like H&R/NEF, Marlin and Ruger keep their costs down by as much parts standardization as they can across their whole line of guns..

Just an FYI, most NEF/H&R barrels are made by Green Mountain.
