I have one, is the nipple too big for a #11? The older ones (2000-2001) used #11 caps, the newer ones (2002-present) use a 209 primer that fits into a "red full plastic jacket". Someone might have put in a musket nipple in the breech plug and use that instead of the #11 too. Need more information to be able to help you out.

Is the nipple and breech plug separate or is it all in one? Do you have the breech plug wrench? If the breech plug has a 7/16" hex head for removal it is the 209 system mentioned above. If the nipple and breech plug is separate or the wrench has a slot for the nipple and a blade for the breech plug it was originally a #11 system that may have a musket nipple installed. Does your striker face have a funnel shaped point or is it flat? if it has the point it is a 209 FPJ ignition. If it has a barrel band for the ramrod instead of a ferrule mounted (#11) to the bottom of the barrel, it's a 209 FPJ ignition.

That should help to determine what you have, hope it helps.

A great gun. I have had a lot of fun with mine. With the extra full turkey choke it patterns as well as my 3" 11/87 out to about 30 yards. Also use the mod and imp tubes for doves, crows and rabbits. You're going to need to get a breech plug wrench from Knight. Mine uses the 'full plastic jacket' 209 system. I've carried it all day in the rain without ignition problems.

There was a conversion kit that you could buy that replaced the #11 cap with a 209 primer.  I have one of these.  The 209 fits inside the end of the breach plug.  The plug is one piece.  It came with a new striker.  You can use 209 primers without the cost of the plasic sleeves.  Winchester primers fit best.  The others do not fit well.

The plastic jackets are pennies apiece. Knight says they can be reused, but when a bag of 100 is $8, why would anyone try? Yes, it's something else to carry for the rifle, but I carry the plastic jackets already loaded with primers - not a big deal.
