7.62x39 & Range/Ammo

First Post

Bought my NEF 7.62x39 back in December through Gallery of Guns.  Added a  Bushnell Sportsman 4x32mm.

Took it to range today. I started the session with S&B FMJ but that was a no go ... too hard of a primer, I guess.  Changed to Winchester white box FMJ: 20 rounds no problems (13 @ 25 yards, 7 @100 Yards).

Expecting a nice warm sunny  day,  I went to the range wearing a polo shirt.  It was friggin' cold and breezy.  Managed to shoot 7 rounds at 100 yards before I gave up.

Target @ 100 Yards

Next week I will try UMC and PMC.

Most definitely a convert to NEF Handi Rifle and looking for new calibers.  Pity that NEF does not make 6.5x55 barrels.  How is the recoil on the .308? Has anyone tried firing 7.62 NATO on the .308?

Welcome to the forum, and to GrayBeards.
It's always interesting to read more reports on a new offering. I, among others here, have been following the 7.62x39 for awhile. The primers do seem to be the main culprit for most all misfires in this caliber Handi. I think there is still potiential to be had in this caliber Handi though, especially if you handload for it.
The whole Mil. Surplus ammo in Handi's has been debated many times, and if you do a search on it you will find several topics. NEF/H&R doesn't recommend it, but several here have shot it through theirs with mixed results.
Keep us filled in on how she shoots with different loads.

The recoil isn't bad..and I did try some nato ammo in mine..it didn't shoot worth a durn..and cases stuck in it..so..it's a crap shoot if it shoots good thru yours..Right now,NEF doesn't recommend shooting mil-spec'd ammo thru them..
