SKS Disassembley
« on: April 03, 2006, 03:11:54 AM »
My brother-in-law purchased a black nylon stock for his SKS.  I changed the stock but the stock comes with a covering for the gas tube assembly.  How do you take the wood covering off the gas assembly?  I see there is a pin ground flat on one end of each or does the other end unscrew.  There were no instructions with the stock and the SKS manual doesn’t show how to disassemble it?

Thanks,

Turk

You have to drive the pin out with a punch. It can be a real bitch.

When you replace the gas tube cover, you can make a new pin from a small flat head nail. Find one that fits and cut it so about 1/4 inch sticks out. Set the head on an anvil and use a steel punch to tap on the end of the nail till it flattens out. You can then take a file and smooth up both sides so they don't interfere with installing and removing the gas tube. A little cold blue to touch it up and it looks fine.
