i need a scope for my .17hmr and all the scopes in my 'inventory' are 4x or 3-9x. At dunhamssports they got the Barska 6-24x42 mil-dot for $69. I wouldn't trust this for anything on a centerfire but i don't see why not on a rimfire(got a $24 4x32 Barska on my .22). Just thought i'd collect everyone's thoughts ideas or opinions/recommendations.

I say tack on a couple more bucks and get this instead. A trusted name and decent quality for the price range:

Or this one:

EDIT: I forgot that these are availible again:

Although I've never owned a Barska scope, I have owned a few binoculars that carry this brand name.  I find their optics leave a lot to be desired, and considering there are a few other more reliable names, and better quality available in the same price range, I'd go with one of those instead.

I put a Barska 6-24 mildot on the Marlin 917V that my wife bought me for Christmas.  First trip to the range, I ran one box of Hornady's through the gun.  It shot extremely well, but I never could focus the scope, no matter how hard that I tried.  I had a splitting headache for two days because of that crappy scope.  I sent it back to the knucklehead outfit who sold it to me, and I ended up eating the shipping.

Barska is, without a doubt, the worst optical device that I have ever looked through.  Please save yourself the misery of a mistake that I made.

well even a $100 is too much, if y'all can belive that. otherwise i could get a Tasco 2.5-10x42 mil-dot from Binoculars.com (based in Proctor, 10-15min drive from home)

While the Gold line is a much better bet, the Silver line ain't bad. At least in my book. I have heard from several owners that are very happy with them, givin they admit what they are and what they aren't.
Those Gold line are built tuff though.
