aint doing to well right now pal. Elmer my chocolate lab one year old was let out to go pee last night at 8 and hasnt came back. ITs totaly not like him especially when the weather is crappy. About the only time hell take off out of the yard is when the neighbor dog is out and she was in all night. I dont know if someone stole him or a wolf or coyote got him. Hate to sound like a girl but this morning is the first time ive cried like a baby in 10 years. if you could say a prayer that wherever he is he aint suffering id appreciate it more then words can say!

Glad to here the good news.  You're sure right about the power of prayer.  I bet the little guy was sure happy to jump into the back of your new truck.  I think you should take him to the range today to celebrate his return.

Lloyd,
What GREAT news!   I am thinking that instead of the range, you need to take him out in the woods for a good run.

:cb2: I had a lab that was great at climbing fences. Would get out all the time. Well trained, and always veeeeeery happy to see me when I got him back, but I was told that was just a lab thing. They love to "explore."

Glad you got yours back! They're wonderful dogs, and even better friends.

I read your post early this morning and returned now to see if the news was good. It is, and I'm happy for you!

My beagle chases deer when given the opportunity so I know all about those anxious hours, wondering if he tried to cross a highway and didn't make it. Human nature always looks for the worst in these situations and thankfully we're wrong most of the time.

I had one adopted lab that liked to run away when she could.

My phone number is sewn into all my dogs collars now.  Worked for her a couple of times until she decided "what am I trying to get away from", and started staying home.

Good you found yours.

get tags on him quick.  and if he keeps it up, take his nads off.

yep,  i had a dog that liked to run years ago.  i finally had enough,  took him to the vet to get "tutored".   :)      he never ran off again.  he lost all desire to roam, as a matter of fact.    i always felt a little guilty about it,  but we never planned on breeding him,  and it did nothing but improve an already good dog.   in retrospect,  it made all the difference in the world.

i am glad you got your buddy back.

Sure glad you got your pal back. Read your first post and dang if my eyes almost started watering. Lost a good beagle once, cried like a baby out behind the poll barn. So I know how it is.

Glad things turned out well.

Glad to hear you got your dog back.  I would have been a basket case.

My yellow lab goes everywhere with me -- to the range, to babysit the grandkids, to the bank, grocery store, to the archery range, fishing, 2 walks a day, I even took her elk hunting last year (blaze yellow/orange vest and all).

Had a real interesting experience at the outdoor archery range a couple of years back.  It's a walking course with 28 targets on the front side and the same on the back side.  It's out in the boonies -- elk, moose, deer are not at all uncommon.  One morning, I had worked my way around the course, and my lab was out "exploring" as usual, when all of the sudden she came running thru the timber like she was being chased by something.  When she broke thru the timber, I saw something fairly large and black chasing her.  Thinking "BEAR", I threw down my bow, and started to drag out the 396 that I always carry, when I realized it was just a big rotweiler -- we were fairly close to the parking area, and my lab is a dog magnet.  As it turned out, the dogs were just playing.  Had a real adreneline rush there for a minute.

Whew!  For a minute there, I thought Lloyd was going to say that his girl friend was his best friend!  Glad you got him back Lloyd.  I've got two, a well mannered Black Lab female named 'Agie' and a bone headed yellow '120lb' male named 'Shooter'.  I'd be devestated if anything happened to either one of them!  They ARE family!  44 Man

Lloyd, I did not have a good evening.  I looked up from the supper table to watch a young beagle playing in my back yard.  She was running and bouncing all over.  Just having a ball.  As I watched through the slider, a young girl (high school age) climbed our fence and called the puppy.  The puppy would have none of this though and was having a ball playing 'bet you can't catch me!'  I went out to try to head the puppy off but she just scampered around both of us, ran under the fence, and headed back home.  The girl and I both laughed at the puppy and my 'she's playing bet you can't catch me' remark.  I went back inside laughing and thinking 'what a wonderful picture, a girl and her dog laughing and playing' as she climbed back over the fence and went running after her.  Five minutes later I decided to run into town.  As I got into my car, I could see them a couple of houses down, the girl laughing and the dog ripping circles around her.  I pulled out and just before I got to their house, the puppy ran out into the road and an oncoming truck hit her!  He did not stop, but I did.  The girl was screaming and crying.  I went over and picked the puppy up out of the road and carried it over to the lawn, blood running down my vest and pants.  She was hit hard and was not going to make it.  I petted her and talked softly to her as she died.  I had my hand on her chest and felt when her heart stopped.  The girl was crying, her mother was crying, and I was crying.   And damn it, I still am!  44 Man
