ok i have a cat problem....i live outside city limits but i dont want to draw too much attention to myself when im shooting the stray cats(my wife feeds them, but they keep sprayin on my porch and ive had enough). ive heard of the pop bottle on the end of your gun but i was wondering if there are any bullets that make very little noise.

Aguila Colibri are quieter than my pellet rifle. Accurate to 25 yards, you need to zero for them since they hit to a very different point of aim than normal 22 ammo. Go for lung shots on cats, they probably won't penetrate the skull.

Just making a interesting observation here since I do own a pellet rifle and pistol  and 22's. Going to the pellet gun forums most there figure that a 500 fps ( most bb guns or low power pellet guns  or pellet pistols  Some may be a bit lower into the 400's ) are not enough power to kill anything cat size. Most 22 forums say use the Colibri rounds or CB caps to kill cats. Kinda interesting that both camps have different ideas what it takes to kill a cat.  Last cat I shot was with a 22 mag out of a Ruger Single Six. It did the job.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Any of my air rifles will kill something the size of a cat?
Problem is that they are louder than a standard 22 short!
The CB cap made by CCI will do the job with proper shot placement.
Bare in mind though that a cat is something that normally
will get very Crazy when wounded (little ones and big ones) so aim just below the ear or right at an eye. This will shut them down instantly.
The strays around my house have become so wary that I have now had to resorted to trapping them. Don't get me wrong, I really like Cats
I just don't like feeding everyone elses.

So how fast or powerfull are your pellet guns? I suppose if they are 1000 fps they would at a reasonable distance. I was refering to the lower powered pellet guns. 500 or 600 fps that would be inline with the colibri or some cb caps.

I have found that the strays that I have pinged with low powered pellet or BB guns don't ever come around again. This is an alternative to killing or wounding them and the hassles with you neighbors that this could create.

i tried shooting them with a pellet gun but they keep coming back, especially this one big tom cat. i even shot him with a sling shot with the steel hunting balls. he took off but he was laying on my porch the next day.

A guy in my home town had one problem cat that wouldnt go away, and he didnt want to kill it... so he trapt it, spray painted it bright orange, and duct taped a target to it...  call me sick, but that's funny. The cat never came back to his house.

I'm not one to shoot cats if I can help it, but I have had to pop some in the butt a few times with a BB till they learned to avoid the place.

If I had to terminate one, I would probably consider Aquila's 60 grain subsonic. In a long barrel, it shouldn't be terribly loud, and it would fully penetrate, thus leaving no "evidence" should the cat run off after taking a hit.

There needs to be something done about cats. I don't know why people who own them think that everyone else wants their cat crying on their porch or spraying around the house. Unfortunitly today you have to be very careful in how you handle the situation or you'll get animal cruilty charges and end up on the news.

SSS= ( shoot + shovel + Shut up)
This has so far worked for me.  Remington subsonic has proven to be accurate enugh in my 22 LR to be quiet and effective.   No sonic crack, just a pop,  Try for head shots only so about 50 yads max and I have it sighted in at that range.

CB Longs will do the dirt to a cat inside 35 yards.  Dead quite out of a rifle.  727fps with a 29 grain bullet.  The airgun types will tell you that it's the bullet weight not velocity that gives deep penetration.  Ask a couple of cats I've met, you'll have to use a ouiji board.
I aim to please - but often miss.

I have had great success with CB Longs out of a K17 and 2 different rifles.  Good accuracy and real close to the same point of aim out to 15 or 20 yards.  Deadly on squirrels & cats when the bullet is placed in the right spot.  Won't cycle the semi-auto, but never a problem with extraction.

I've used both CB shorts and CB longs for quite a few years now...  They will dispach a cat no problem if you do your part....

My dad has shot a truck load of opossums and coons with them along with some cats..  One shot each out of an old Savage single shot bolt gun he carrys it right on the wheeler....

It seems there's a cat problem everywhere!!!  I shot a cat the other day with my RWS 45 useing a pointed pellet and it didn't do near the job a CB cap would have, useing the same head shot!  I've chronographed those pellets out of my rifle at near 1,000 fps too.

I have 2 Sheridan Blue streaks And an Old Crosman (CO2)That will easily Kill something the size of cats. Opossums, Racoons no problem. I personally would recommend CCI - CB caps though.
These fire a 29 grain bullet to a velocity of 720 fps out of my Winchster single shot.
They are Deadly accurate out to about 40 yards and are quieter than my air rifles..
My Winchester will tear one ragged hole at 40 yards with a 10 round group of CB's

Subsonic hollow points in a long rifle barrel are as quiet as a silencer. I shoot RWS subsonic hollow points in my CZ 452 with a 25" barrel and the bullet impact in the bullet trap makes more noise than the muzzle blast.

FWIW, I recently attempted shooting a stray tom-cat with CCI CB Longs. They are incredibly quiet out of my bolt action remmy--I think the colibri's are even more quiet--but I haven't done a side by side comparison.

At any rate, I nailed the tomcat in the "forhead" at ~20 yards while it laid in the grass. It did a backflip, let out a wait, and ran off. I saw it about 6 hours later back on the farm...didn't appear to be injured at all. My guess is the soft conical ball of the CB LONG simply deflected off it's skull and gave it a bit of a headache.
The CB shorts and CB longs both have a velocity of 710fps with a 29 grain bullet. Most air rifles are shooting pellets ~1/2 that mass. I have shot several cats with my 750fps air rifle...most of which are still running around, but I know of a few that didn't survive. I've quit using the air rifle for cats--cats are fast, and like to run when hit...they'll make it home.

I'll agree with using a good sub-sonic (900-1,000fps) with a 36-40 grain bullet.
I've used aguila super hyper maximum velocity's on cats and rats, they have a velocity of 1,750 fps and do wonders...but my group size almost doubles due to an inablility to stabalize.

why not try a slingshot or a pump up .22 cal airgun? i have killed a coon at 15 yards with a head shot and if you use a slingshot try to find daisy powerline yellow slingshot band because they give more killing power. And i have got a .22 now, it the H&R  fieldsman 852.

I've used subsonic rounds that are so quiet, the action of my Glenfield cycling makes as much sound as the muzzle blast.  Had to believe but I've heald it out away from my face, at arms length to the side and I hear the action more than the shot.  Plus they are accurate in it as well.  At least up to 25yds, never tried farther.

I recomend the CCI hands down over the Calebri cartridges.  I have shot Woodchucks out to 25-30 yards and gotten instant kills. GOTTA BE HEAD SHOTS!! Wood chucks are VERY tough critters, cats are thin skinned.

I have two I use one is an old Springfield bolt with about a 26-27" barrel and open sites. The other is a CZ with a 29" barrel and a Leupold 3X9X40 AO scope. The springfield will hit a nickle and the CZ will hit a dime everytime at 25-30 yards. The CZ will continue to do this out to about 100. (With LR ammo) BTW,  I have had a couple Calebris stay in the barrel of the CZ!!! The CCI's always exit the barrel. For this reason I will never shoot them again. They are just TOO lo powered.

I will also recomend the longest barrel 22 you have, Bolt or SS prefered.

As stated, Airguns may be fast but they are fast with LIGHT projectiles. Even a HEAVY 22 pellet wont weigh HALF what a CCI CB short weighs. I too have a RWS pellet rifle. its rated at 850 with a 22cal pellet. out to 25 yrds it will shoot thru squrrels, but the power drops FAST past that. Its also WAY louder than the 22 shooting CB's. The longer the barrel the quieter the CCI's will be.

By the way, did you know what CB stands for.....I know conical bullet, but for humors sake it stands for CAT BULLETS!!!

Good luck and straight shooting,
 CW

I use a scoped romainian trainer bolt action with Aguila 60gr Sniper rounds-very quiet, hits like a ton of bricks for a solid.

Just take head many rimfires don't have the rate of twist to properly stabalize this round (long and heavy)...They often tumble in flight/keyhole. They are pretty neat, though!
