Looks like it would have to be tapped and drilled for some sort of mount probably a side mount. either way if you take it to a gunsmith to have it done you could buy a used Mossburg that is set up for scopes for about the same price and have a other gun. My gunsmith charges 20 bucks a hole drilled and tapped that is 80 bucks for 4 holes plus what the mounts cost if you can even get them for this gun. For that price you could buy a used Mossberg that has scope grooves already set up on it. Even if a gunsmith charges 15 a hole that is still 60 bucks plus the mount ect still getting close to an other used gun.
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

Note a good peep sight set up will be just as accurate at squirrel ranges. Try shooting it first before you get too reved up about a scope on this old mossy.

Most of the Mossbergs came through with dove tailed recivers. Mine did. If you plan on taking off the reciver sights go to rimfirecentral, there are a bunch of Mossy fans there that would like to get their hands on them. A good bunch of guys there....Jim

Jim I think a lot of the Mossbergs had those scope rails as part of the package but if you look at a picture of this gun in a gun guide ( I used the gun traders guide) It does not look like it has a scope rail. In fact it has some raised metal from what I could see on the picture that is like a shroud around the ejection port which would not make that possible. I think if this gun was to be scoped you would have to go with a side mount from what I could see from the pics. Jim
