First kill with my .45-70
« on: April 08, 2006, 11:56:07 AM »
Here's a pic of my first kill.  I'm on the right and my hunting buddy Mike is on the left.

It was a 150 pound hog I shot in TX three weekends ago.  Man, I love this rifle and caliber.  I shot 300gr Barnes XFN bullets and they worked great.

So, now I'm hooked.  I needed another rifle like a hole in the head but since I like this so well I'm getting a shotgun barrel and a muzzleloader barrel as backup guns and a .30-06 for the heck of it.

Congratulations bucknbass, you are hooked now buddy, we all started like that, one H&R we loved and then the rest came. Try a .280 Rem with a 26" barrel, it will be a love affair all over again!!!!....<><....

Also, don't forget the rimfires, the .22Mag and .17 HMR or .17 Mach2 are great, and might as well get a .22 LR to go along with them!!! The .22 LR is great to shoot super Colibri's or CB's out of as well as standard velocity (sub-sonic) .22 shorts.  These fine little NEF Sportsters also shoot the high velocity stuff fine, just a little more noise, with the little stuff you can shoot in the cellar or back yard for "vermin" control, squirrels and crows, a head shot and they fall "like an ear of corn" as a friend says....<><.... :-D

Never thought about the ability to shoot shorts - good point.  I might have to get one.  I like them for squirrels especially if you've got more than one in a tree!

Sure has, you guys better watch out!  Especially when I get my arsenal of barrels and a rimfire action.  I think I'm gonna hate, err..., I mean love these guns!
